Is there any chance at all that Shula will be fired soon?

If you were Shula, you can't run the ball because you o-line sucks and you have practice squad RBs, you can't pass short, because they are dropping 7 or 8 guys in short coverage, and you can't throw even intermediary passes let alone deep passes because you can't pass pro long enough, what would you do?

Throw conventional wisdom out the window and come out the next game with a gameplan so wild the opposing team would have no idea what to do with it.

When the o line blocked well we got chunk plays.  The fact we did okay is only credence to the idea that the offensive system isn't the problem.

The problem is we are driving the ball, then take a sack.  Or get a holding penalty, or can't get the 3rd and short.

It isn't the offense.  And I personally don't think playcalling is the issue either usually (although I did not really like the way we called the game after getting way behind).

But Shula had a bad day today.  And he needs to figure it out or else he is going to be the scapegoat and he is going to get fired.  And he should.

But if an offensive line cant pass block or run block you are screwed, and probably bringing in a new coordinator isn't going to fix much.

It is like bringing in a new doctor to treat a body that is already dead

I think it is the offensive system in the redzone or maybe its bad game-planning in the redzone. We have to take shots at the endzone like we did with Cam to KB both times. One was the S failed to get over, but he also was thrown off because Cam was going through his reads on the one side and came back to KB once he saw he was open. The other was a one on one and KB beat his man, he was just barely out of bounds. Cam had good protection on both of those plays. The Ravens find one on ones down there and Flacco throws it up and allow his guy to make a play. Atleast get a PI. Cam has one hell of an arm, so go aggressive. You're right on penalties and sacks, but lack of aggression hurts as well. You compare Cam numbers to other QB's and one of things that low in comparison is TD's. We have a big redzone threat and even Cotchery had 10 Td's last season, that has to mean something

That is an idea, but then you have to install an entirely new offense in 2 days and one that doesn't require an o line.

Normally when I get ticked off I can rumble off a bunch of ideas that I think would help, but the last two games the o line has been so bad I don't know what to do.

Right now my idea is to just almost abandon the run and take the sacks and negative plays, but hop for big chunk plays when o line actually blocks someone

I will have to go back and watch this game again (ugh) but we were trying to against Pitt but we did not even have time for that. It was open all day down field against Pitt and it was frustrating because we couldn't take advantage.

2. With that said, the wide receiver position is the least of Carolina's problems. They were down to Darrin Reaves and Tauren Poole at running back after DeAngelo Williams was injured again. The offensive line has been terrible blocking for the run and the pass. Cam Newton genuinely played a strong game from the pocket, made few mistakes, and tossed in a number of incredible third down throws. His running game and his pass protection let him down.  http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000402021/article/steve-smith-sr-puts-on-a-show-against-former-team

Can we post this for every idiot "Start DA over Cam" Thread!?

I hope it is the fact that we struggle vs 3-4 and things will get a little better. The problem is we didn't score until the 3rd quarter against the Lions. Once we got more aggressive we blew that game open, granted the distractions wasn't as high against Pitts and Ravens but I dont know. Really gives you a headache trying to figure out it. I just know moving the ball isn't the problem, something has to be fixed to get points on the board and I know aggressive vs conservative play-calling plays a part
