Dave Gettleman?

Like I said, which some of you seem to not get, is that I am not arguing whether or not Hurst would have started. I am arguing with the rationale behind drafting another RB as opposed to drafting an LT that was graded higher.  It's as simple as that. I said it then, I'm saying it now.  No one in their right mind would say with any surety that Hurst or any draft pick in the sixth round would be a day one starter. That's not the issue as far as I'm concerned. The issue (as with most draft picks) is the rationale behind the pick.

I'm not saying DG made the correct pick, I kind of wanted Hurst also, but I might be able to explain some of the rationale.  First of all I wouldn't say Hurst was graded higher, would depend on which site you are looking at.  The fact is 32 teams passed on him which is surprising because OTs are in demand and tend to be drafted higher then what their grade indicates.

The fact is once you get into the later rounds the chance of landing a starter are actually really low.  Someone said around 20%, I've seen numbers even lower then that.

Because of this a lot of teams will look for situational players or special teamers at this point in the draft. I don't think Gaffney was drafted with the expectation of being an every down feature back. From what I remember he was considered a good short yardage back and really good at pass protection. Also I could see him being used on special teams such as Tolbert. Speaking of Tolbert I'm not sure if people realize this but cutting him next year will create just as much cap space in 2015 as cutting DWill or Stew.

So the question becomes do you draft a tackle that ,based on your evaluation and past draft history, really only has about a 10% of being successful or a running back that you feel has a substantially greater chance of being successful in a smaller situational role.

Someone could argue, rightgully so, that we are in really bad shape on the Oline and that the risk was worth it. Others would prefer to make the safer choice.

Either way I don't think it was some defining "mistake" of DG.

Thinkaboutit, here's the deal. Stop quoting me to have a conversation over this. Actually, that goes for anybody discontent over Gettleman's handling of anything. I don't want to come on here and address conspiracy theories against our QB, and go over the same points with 50 different people, and reiterate common knowledge. I really don't give a poo how many yards Smith has, or some 7th round left tackle that played his first game and didn't look terrible, or how the one guy we were able to afford to bring in is struggling because he's not very talented/worthless in run support/has jock itch.

Gettleman's a guy who came in and got a team that couldn't win for poo since 2008 and helped patch them up into a 12-4 division winner. We're still 2-2 and that's the best start we've had in years. The panthers have always seemed to trend upward later in the season so we'll see where this goes. I support the guy and understand the tough decisions he has to make, which contrasts with the convenience of a million huddle posters who look smart talking about every player they would've brought in and vilifying the guy in charge over every single perceived oversight. I don't care how many late round or UDFAs you people have to throw in my face, or what free agent any random one of you happened to like that got brought on another team and is doing decent work. Quote somebody else who has more time on their hands.

You are irrelevant. My post being true or false has ZERO to do with you personally.

I like almost everything the Getts has done so far. He did say coming in that he was building a consistent winner and i was thinking 2015 or 2016 before we were actually good. Its not like anyone was expecting 12-4 last year. I really dont want big $$ free agents and would rather sign mid level guys while resigning our cogs.

The only gripe i have is the pitiful O-line we're fielding.

We drafted 0 OTs in his 2 drafts so far even though it has been a weakness since day 1.

That's my only gripe with Gettleman's draft. Guess I should have specified.

I mean that really has to do with timing and the talent out there when we were picking. I mean the best guys on the board were Morgan Moses and Cyrus Kouandjio your better off just skipping the need and picking someone who is good at another position. Also same situation in draft 1 where he took Star and KK. You can't have it all now

How mad would you have been if we had passed on KB and picked up the top 2 rated OT at 28

Bills rookie RT Cyrus Kouandjio was reportedly "dominated" in Wednesday's joint practice with the Steelers.
The whole Buffalo offensive line apparently looked like garbage. OL coach Pat Morris called out Kouandjio during the OL vs. DL drill by saying, "You might as well be Venus de Milo." Venus de Milo is an ancient Greek statue in Paris. Kouandjio has been getting whipped by opposing pass rushers. Once viewed as the favorite at right tackle, Kouandjio will be lucky to earn the swing tackle job.

The Washington Post leaves the door open for the Redskins to possibly cut third-round OT Morgan Moses.
Beat writer Mike Jones does write that it would be "hard to see them giving up on a third-round pick this quickly." But Moses is having trouble adjusting to the speed and strength of NFL pass rushers. Tom Compton has outplayed Moses as the No. 3 tackle behind starters LT Trent Williams and RT Tyler Polumbus. Moses' name was brought up as a potential first- or second-rounder before going 66th overall to Washington. He may be a weekly scratch in year one. Jul 29 - 1:27 PM

Steves old hes still good but wtf dont yall understand about building for the future . We need players like bersin and philly to gwt reps so they can become a great player for years down the road

20% starter in the later rounds??? That seems really high to me personally. 1 out of 5 guys in later rounds actually unseats a season vet seems kinda far fetched. It is probably 1 out of 15-20 guys who can actually start depending on the round.
