All of a sudden, 89 getting all the love....

Recommended Posts

That is great, but we were not discussing how we (or you)  judge players...The initial issue was whether Smitty was a team player or not, and I made it clear that he was a good player but nowhere close to a good team player.

That is idiotic.  You are no where close.

anyone claiming he was the "epitome of a team player" can blow it out their ass. smith was/is a dickhead, and he blames everyone for not being in charlotte except himself...which is who he should blame. if he would have shown the least little bit of humility while he was in charlotte, it would have been impossible to cut him, no matter what the cost to the team or how poor his on field performance was...he would have just meant that much to the team, plain and simple.

think about these points:

1. we are clearly in win now mode. after getting a first round bye in the playoffs last year, we know we have a shot at a super bowl building around the players on the roster last season.

2. steve smith is without question our franchises greatest on field player...ever.

3. steve smith plays a position we are extremely weak at, and when we cut him, not only did we not have smith anymore, we literally had NO viable options at WR.

considering those 3 things, there is no way in hell you can rationally justify cutting him...unless he was just such a pain in the ass that he had to go. for a professional athlete getting paid a LOT of cash, thats just down right pathetic, and thats all on smith.

i know how some people cant comprehend that, because he was so awesome here, its just not natural to think bad of the guy...but then you have to decide if youre a panther fan, or a steve smith fan. IMO, panther fans should be pretty pissed that he acted so entitled and was a jerk to the extent that we paid him to take his talents to baltimore. with his arrogance, he crapped all over our team, and our fanbase by assholing his way out of charlotte.

i truly do miss steve smith on the field, but fug him...baltimore can have him, and his piss poor attitude.

sorry for the bad language, and wasnt trying to offend anyone. it took a while for me to get to this point, but i truly believe i see the situation clearly, and its helped me get over it and move on, realizing that with or without him, the PANTHERS WILL KEEP POUNDING!! when he retires a panther, i will claim him again and smile when reminiscing the good ol' days, but i will protest a statue in his honor.

for the record, i made up the word assholing.

You're a fuging dipshit if you can't see how Smith wanting to play out his career with Panther's franchise despite poo coaching, QB's, offensive philosophy and no help beside him. Seriously, you're just ignoring everything that made him a team player.

Being a dick has dick to do with being a team player, and it's why every fugign user in this thread should define "team player" before shouting off a spiel of bullshit.

Boy! What hypocrisy and revisionist history!

Flipping the script, and then supporting it by some nebulous weak ass opinions that you try and pass off as fact because you want to frame the conversation to support your tired story line. Sure, 89 lost a step, but you intimate that 89's tank is fully depleted. You say we shouldn't have paid the man, not realizing that we are mostly paying him anyway.  You suggest that 89 wasn't giving a 100 percent, apparently not being able to distinguish between not giving a 100 percent because of injury, but giving a 100 percent of what you got.  You were mostly silent throughout his career here, turning your head or hypocritically putting up with his antics with a smile, but now that he was unceremoniously dumped you feel compelled to open your pie hole and add to the growing pile of feces about how horrible the guy is who admittedly was never perfect or an angel.  You say he wasn't worth the money, obviously not realizing that he gets most of his money anyway.  And then you cry about him not being a mentor, which isn't even in his job description. And after all that bashing you have the audacity to say that you will cheer him on the day that he retires a Panther.

This is a weak and immature fan base that can't distinguish between life and football, or football and business, and contains assholes probably bigger than Smitty was ever purported to be. You defame the play of the best two players in franchise history (two probable HOFERS) and expect the football community to think that you're more knowledgeable, credible, and reasonable and rational than most other fan bases.

You expect Smitty...Smitty....to not respond to being cut after giving his heart and soul to the franchise for more than a decade?  If you think that, you're crazier than you say that he is.

Shut your damn pie hole like it was shut before, or give the man his credit and hope that he doesn't get the revenge that we all know that he desperately wants on Sunday.

Man. Everyone's worried about much to do with nothing.

Tomorrow SS will be on the wrong side of the field. That's all that matters.

Smitty will get his, that's ok. It's going to be a great football game.

People want him to fail so they don't have to hear why we should have never cut him, I get it. It makes it easier.

I want Steve to be Steve, panthers to be panthers, and play a great football game in which we win.

I'm excited cause tomorrow we will know what it's like to face Steve smith for the first time.

Nothing wrong with that. We better bring our A game.

Panthers 30. Ravens 24

I will say this, wont suprise me one bit if Smitty has a very quiet day. Anytime something like this is hyped by a player or the media, its like the complete opposite happens. Hasnt Smitty ran his mouth in the past before a game only to be shutdown come game day?! I think hes way to distracted and caught up in playing against us that hes losing sight of the bigger picture. I just have a feeling he has a mediocre day tommorrow.
