All of a sudden, 89 getting all the love....

Recommended Posts

89 was a jerk when he was here, and he is still a jerk.  He is the best player in Panther history-emphasis on the word HISTORY.  He was never a team player.  It impacted our offense in negative ways you can't see from the bleachers.

He is 35 and has a year or two left---I get it.  Paying him the remainder of his contract to stay here--I don't get.

How and the fug can you be this blind to what Smith gave this organization. He could have signed elsewhere for more money with a high powered offense that would have gave him a huge statistic boost and probably even a chance at a ring, but instead he stayed with the Panther's through many QB and coach changes. He wanted to be a Panther for life, but was kicked out. He was the epitome of a team player. Without Smith we wouldn't have played in the Superbowl, and wouldn't have even sniffed the NFC championship games.

It's fuging ridiculous how everyone seems to forget before game our offense was largely on Smith's back.

Shame he didnt put the same level of effort in when he was here last season.

No what's shameful is the narrative this forum is spinning to cover Gettleman's ass after cutting Smith. What's shameful is Smith had to play in Shula's bizzaro conservative offense where he outside of a TE and QB was the only offensive threat.

Smith played his ass off last season, even while hurt. He came in every game and gave 110% effort. He gave the speech after the third loss that turned the locker room around. Smith never took a play off, and WON us games last year. His clucth third down, fourth down catches. Forced penalties, hell even talking the refs out of  a penalty one time.

The funny thing is all anyone can do is say Smith dropped the ball a few times and didn't put up 1K yard year, or talk poo about him for missing a couple games. Really? Okay so Smith has to get over 1000 yards in a system where everyone here likes to argue (usually the same forum posters) doesn't rely on a lot of yards gained to be a solid offense (the whole 29th offense doesn't mean anything argument). Where's the talk about Benjamin's drops he's had so far in three games? Where's the talk about Cotchery and Avant missing camp time, practice, games?

This fuging forum is bonkers.

I can't believe how blind/dumb some people can be........the past is the past and #89 is on another team. I respect the past but I also look forward to the future. Thank you Smitty for what you have to help us get to a mediocre record over the years but I personally hope you suck a fat goose egg until you retire a Panther. Then I will love you again, but until then.....NO LOVE and FUG OFF.

Well obviously you don't respect Smith or what he's done for the Panthers, and that's the fuging problem. The amount of Smith poo talk from every poster here is essentially trolling.

You obviously don't have to support him or Baltimore, but it's a God damn shame to see this fan base poo talk arguably it's best offensive player.

Its not like he selflessly and enthusiastically blocked for our running backs or anything, when most big-shot wideouts refused to do so.

So blocking makes him a team player?  What about comments he made about not helping teammates at WR because they were the competition, throwing teammates under the bus in the media, and--oh yeah, sucker punching 2 teammates when they were not looking.

Go team.

We paid the dude while he was here.....do you suggest we worship him blindly while he plays against us? That is bull shite........wake the fug up and support your team. I HATE the way he was let go but my team is my team and I don't have always agree with how things get done but we are winning and we have a great young core so I LOVE what the future holds.

Oh I forgot Smith was a coach, wait no he's not and shouldn't be expected to act as one.

The talent we drafted beside him were poo. He did however take a liking to Armanti for some reason and did try to help him.

You're misconstruing what I said. You don't have to poo talk him, just respect him. The people in this thread, including you, are fuging blind if you can't see what Smith gave to this franchise. He didn't want money, that's why he stayed in Carolina, it's why he wanted to retire a Panther.

Let me get this straight--anyone who does not see Smith from your perspective is blind?

He was kicked out because it would have cost the team a boat load of money.  Even your description of what Smitty could have done was about Smitty--he wanted to keep his family in Charlotte.  That is not a team decision.  The epitome of a team player?  Ask Bright and Lucas about that.  Ask Clausen when Smitty bashed him in the press.

You obviously do not know what  "team player" means.  You describe a good player, but not once did you describe a TEAM player.

Have you ever met Smitty?  He is an ASS.  Have you ever watched a practice when he was out there?  I watched about 3, and the only teammate who talked to Smitty was Kasay.  They others pretty much avoided him.  Team player?  Not close.
