Built out a pretty decent rig with enough gadgets under the hood (i7 @ 4.0Ghz , 2 TB of SSD [plus another 8 TB in spinning because hard drives are free from work], 2 GTX 660s, 32 GB of RAM, 2 27" IPS monitors, etc.) to be scooting for the next few years (it's more for work, but can double for gaming since both use heavy resources), then the baby has arrived and yeah, like playing games is going to happen again any time soon.

Still doesn't have all I need to do what I need for work purposes, it stalls out...of course, I stall out my servers at work and each of those has at least 1TB of RAM when working on complex genomes, so it's all relative.

Complex genomes? What do you do?

My PC is similar to Dex's.  I ordered just a tower from Dell and pimped it out as much as I could, I bought it during Black Friday and used 45% off coupon code someone leaked...  My total cost was like $1.3k.  It's been 4 years and my tower still going strong.  I wish TWC internet was not so laggy.
