stating facts is not bashing.

this is kind of different than the usual "oh he sucked anyway" deal when players leave the team.

everyone here knows smitty is the greatest panther ever as of right now. when something like this happens, the magnitude of the player, people wanna know why. they look at facts. smitty is hard to get along with in the locker room. smitty has a large cap hit the next two years at age 36 and 37. we have young leaders that need to have free reign of this team.

it is a known fact cam and smitty did not get along. this isn't hating on smith, these are just facts. smitty is of the ocho/t.o/randy moss variety. he's the last of that group of wr who could ball and had big mouths. but smitty's production dipped, smitty was confrontational in the lockerroom, smitty's cap hit was sky high for his age/lack of production/focal point in the offense. was he worth it for the team anymore? management didn't think so.

dg could have done a much better job of the release. he's a yank, most yanks are abrasive. and honestly his release was kind of symbolic of the way smitty handled business. but instead of a mature adult at age 35 and letting it go, we have smitty on the sidelines calling DG a motherfuger and a fat piece of poo.

some of what you stated is an opinion, this isn't different then the run of the mil you suck Cause you Play for a different team. You have rational people stating it was due to cap, which is probably the biggest reason of them all, an although I disagree you have some stating it was to give cam leadership

Over the team, which I can also understand to a point

Then it gets ugly, smith not mentoring wrs. Smith punching teammates. Smith suck as a wr, smith didn't give it his all last year, smith was only playing for stats, ect

If anyone falls in that group above its debate time

I haven't heard too much of the cam and smitty didn't get along except the occasional butting heads, also I thought smith stated something different then calling dg that? Is it at the end of the original video?

I'm not sure you get it. Simple Human Nature.

If Smitty was a lovable guy, most people wouldn't be pointing out his obvious flaws.

However, since he's been running his mouth about the team/against the Panthers--essentially all year, Panther fans will call him out on it, or say worse/drag up dirt about Smith. That's just the way it is.

No one dislikes Smith because he left. Not at all. If anything, most will agree that DG did a poor job with his dismissal.

Not sure Smith disliked Cam perse. However, Smith did open up his Big Fat mouth after the Giants embarrassment on Thurs-night Football, and poured gasoline on the flame of a another media non-Cam Controversy they made into a controversy. I'm sure Cam never forgot that. More importantly; I don't think you have to be a genius to figure out, as long as the Panthers had Smith playing with Lafell, etc., he was always going to be in Cam's ear demanding the ball as the declining Alpha Male of the receivers group. I'm sure Gettleman noticed this as well, and felt Newton didn't need that sorta headache, especially with Smith's declining skills, and upcoming large Cap hit the next season.

Keep in Mind: The Giants did something similar in NY.  Tiki Barber, Jeremey Shockey, and others, were jettisoned for the DEVELOPMENT OF ELI MANNING, as Giant management thought that Barber and Shockey were too strong personalities in the lockeroom for Eli to ever reach his potential (and they had good reason to).

Ultimately, The Giants were proven right. Eli won two super bowls not long after.

I think DG, was making the same play here in Carolina, with a similar QB (in a slightly less confrontational, but nonetheless) similar situation as he saw with the Giants and their QB.

it's as he's walking away.

teeray is just talking poo in his posts. he loves smitty.

bringing up not mentoring wrs, smitty punching teammates is just an overall body of work. smitty playing for stats is actually a fact. he stated it on the radio and also stated he would not take a paycut or restructure.

multiple posters here heard that and there was a big thread on it. i don't like to bring up punching teammates because that was a long time ago. mentoring wrs is kind of eh to me because 1. the talent we've brought in to mentor has been complete poo. and 2. at the end of the day it really isn't his job even though it would be an added bonus.

so in conclusion i think smitty was cut because

1. cap hit

2. confrontational personality in the locker room/young talented leadership needing to emerge

3. him stating he was in it for stats/money at the end of his career.

see i have no problem in what you stated, people who want to dig up dirt i'm going to make them work to prove there point.

lol it's as simple as that

as far as the giants game he made a mistake IMO, there's been numerous times he's bragged to the media about Cam as well.....i vaguely remember him sayng in a interview he didn't want to sell cam short because his potential is out the roof. As far as demanding the ball I disagree there, last years stats proves that i do think in game on the lie situations he does demand the ball but what good receivers doesn't.

come sunday he's in the way to what we are trying to accomplish, but people don't have go out there way to spew bs on a guy who played here 13 years

lol i know teeray is messing

your post is and should be an example of what should be posted, i agree with or at least respect this post.

1. Nail on the head

2.i'm a little split but can get behind this

3. goes back to DG could have handled it better, at least present the question to smith to restructure would have made this situation ten folds better

True.

Smith did big up Cam many times, including the NFL top 100 players where he predicted Newton would be the leagues QB. Sure nuff.

Unfortunately, you can't take back what you say. And that is/was part of Smith's volatility.

Ironically, Smith pouted after dropping a key pass during the next week, further illustrating how ill timed his comments were to Brett Jensen after the Giants debacle of 2012.

You also gotta see things from Cam's perspective as a TEAM PLAYER HIMSELF: Despite all the undue, negative criticism he's received from the media, Cam has never thrown his teammates, coaches, or owner underneath the bus. Never!

Now, Smith did it as soon as there was some adversity, after Cam's banner rookie season, aiding Smith's 2011 career revival, when everyone was happy about the future.

So Smith is a complex guy. However, you're never going to win some people over (such as Gettleman), when they see more bad than good, especially at a big cap hit the next season, when you only had 4 TD's the previous one.

lol what overwhelming evidence more opinions.....that's not evidence, the truth is both our arguments are opinions, both of us have articles, interviews, and ect proving each other's point but neither have game breaking info proving the other wrong.

No. I have facts that make 89 uniquely a headache.

You have standard behavior that every NFL player exhibits at some point as some irrational defense of his nonsense.

89 himself has confirmed what a jerk his teammates have thought about him.....so I have 89, 3 punched teammates, and countless hrs of game footage spanding years....as well as confirmation from the guys who cover the team for a living to support my beliefs

that's an opinion not facts look up the definition..........your very last line "my beliefs" confirms that your "beliefs" aren't facts and obtaining events IN YOUR OPINION to back that doesn't magically make it a fact

No. Assaulting teammates = fact. Not opinion.

89 specifically addressing what his own lockerroom says about him, AGAIN = fact. Not opinion.

actual video footage of his antics, again. Facts.

None of those are opinions. Those are facts. I take facts and use them to form my belief since I have no first hand experience with players.

You are trying to gray something is pretty much black and white. 89 is a jerk. He was our jerk. Then he got old and we made him someone else's jerk
