I hate the people on this board that act as if "your not a real panther fan if you don't want Cam to start on Sunday".

What I have to say to you is "fug you!"

The Cam that is appearing on Sunday is a shell of his former self, due to the organization down playing the surgery that he had in the offseason as if it were routine. It seems now that they were just covering their collective asses because the surgery was not done sooner. Cam's natural reactions on the football field have not changed since he first started. He holds onto the ball in the pocket to allow plays and routes to develop to where he is comfortable throwing the ball. If any pressure comes near him, he would muscle out of it and run, making people look silly trying to tackle him.

This instincts have not changed, but now he has a bum ankle. He can't be the man he once was. But changing his techniques now for a temporary period of recovery would be foolish. The man is a competitor, he will never tell you he can't do this, he has too much pride in was he does and what he has achieved in life. Coach Rivera needs to grow a pair, and sit him down for the betterment of this teams future. Derek Anderson is not the future, but he can help us in the interim, due to his veteran understanding. He was in Cleveland, he knows how the 3-4 defense works cause he played against it so often.

My main rant here is that people on this board want to act like there is no argument to be made that DA should start. It is their own blind ignorance that makes them so intolerable to read. I recognize what Cam gives us at QB, a consistent big play threat with his arm even though he cant move around as well now. But is that worth him losing confidence and getting injured, after doing so well last season. Ron you have to be the bad guy and sit him down now, if you know what is good for you.

/End Rant

I wonder if Peyton Manning is a shelf of himself because he had neck surgery? And he's got Cam by 10 years. Now some of u r doctors.

I sometimes wonder if some of u r real Panthers fans the way u never stop projecting ur crazy fears unto Cam.

Cam is a dynamic football player throwing the ball and running the ball. It just so happens that you need a lot more help when you throw the ball than you do when he's running.

He kills teams with his running ability because a defense doesn't usually account for the QB and if they do then they're taking away that defender from somewhere else so if the QB doesn't run the defender was just a spectator. When things break down and there are wide open lanes (because no one account for the QB running) Cam has plenty of room to run. It also helps that he is a superior athlete. For the most part it doesn't matter what his o-line does or what his WR's or doing or what the play call was. When everything breaks down Cam's running ability is lethal.

Now, passing is a different story. He's shown in the first couple of games that he's really excelling as a passer. He's been accurate and thrown well. He's been late on a few passes but many of those were still catchable but really had more to do with knowing his receivers than his ability.

Any QB that is passing from the pocket needs everyone on the team to do their part and to help him so he can be great at his job.

We need good WR's that can catch the ball.

We need an O-line to give him the time he needs for his receivers to get open.

We need a run game to keep the defense honest so they don't just tee off.

We need a game plan that works with the parts we have.

Right now, we're hurting at all of those spots.

Our received corps are good enough and even with Benjy quickly becoming a star, he's not one yet. We're still hurting at the position although if the other areas weren't so lacking it wouldn't be as noticeable.

Our O-line is not the greatest. (Duh) But we're not anywhere near as bad as we played last week. They can't hold up for long period of time which bring up my final point.

Shula has to game plan around these problems by moving the pocket. Leaving in more protection. Quicker developing plays. Checkdowns. Etc. Heading into this game I really thing Shula and company thought otherwise based on how well all those areas were doing in the first two games. The Bucs suck but we handled some very good players on their D-line. Detroit has a very good d-line and they barely got to Cam. With the way the Steelers were playing the Panthers probably saw no reason we couldn't play the same type of game. And I agree.

I bet every Panther fan thought the same thing I did. That we would steamroll the Steelers. I told my buddies I watch the game with before it started that on paper we should but anything can happen in the NFL. You just never know.

And that is why a team takes care if their superior qbs, not use them until they become useless.

Take a page from the Seahawks. Russell only runs when he has too. The other players play their role well or lose their position to another player.

Only weak teams believe that exposing their talented QB week in and out to the elements is a part football. This team pays players to not do their jobs but get on the QB'S back endlessly. Such a disfunctional way to run a team.

Exactly what is there to evade when the opposing defense is getting pressure just rushing 3?

It doesn't matter who is behind center, we need a real OL, and if not that then a smarter gameplan to mask those deficiencies.

Notice how the "real fans" for this team keep evading the real issues with this team with recount of how great Cam was with his legs? I wonder how many of them were demanding that he sat in the pocket more last year?

You're the type of person I was speaking about. I never said to get rid of him or that he is useless. Maybe you need to grow a pair? Of eyes.

Using an example of the Peyton Manning situation proves how ridiculous you are being. Peyton had how many surgeries to get back on the field? Stop with your revisionist history. He was not a guarantee to get back on the field much less play the way he is.

Cam Newton is a shell of himself this year so far. His chemistry with his WRs and running is not as good as it was. This is due to the new receivers and limited practice time with them. I would rather him heal up.

And no I'm not a doctor, are you? It doesn't take a doctor to figure out that rg3 and cam are not able to play the same way after injury and subsequent surgery.

Is Peyton Manning still playing for his original team?

It's not that difficult to see the differences between the two situations that you are poorly attempting to compare.

Griffin has torn his ACL in both college, and the NFL. He is a different player, with different circumstances.

WTF does Manning have to do with anything....other than you who brought him up? Build dat strawman yo!

Also does Manning limp around and grimace in pain after almost every play? No? then your own made up point is irrelevant and not applicable. If you can't see that Cam is playing differently right now due to his injuries then there really is nothing for you.

I'd argue that the people who don't care what happens to Cam are "not real fans" because they seemingly don't care if Cam gets taken out. If he was to sit (which he won't) it would be to get him healthy.

Some of these people crack me up with their tin foil hats and poo about "motives" and what not lol......yea sorry some of us care about the long term health of our franchise QB...he's one Ngata dog pile away from being on IR.

FTR I wouldn't sit him but completely understand the logic as it sits right now especially if he is not improved for the Cincy game...that defense is going to be a nightmare scenario for this team.

hard to agree more.  i think the real fans are the people who want to see Cam play an entire season and not just next week.

Cam is a superstar when he's able to bring both his running and throwing abilities to the table. When you take away the running, he becomes a good, but nothing special QB. If the coaches arent going to want him to run because of fear of injury, you might as well just play Anderson and allow Cam to fully heal. Cam is a much better football player than DA, he is not a much better pure passer

If we're going to go the "real fan" route, then "real fans" would listen to the man himself. If he says he can play, then let him play.

Except not...that's one of the reasons they take the players helmet away when they have concussion like symptoms these days.

Every player would say he is ok whether he is or not and it's up to the doctors, training staff, and coaches not the player.

Listen to the man himself..yea sure..it hasn't been that way for a long time and it's not hard to figure out why.

Thank those old 'tough guy' players suing the league after the fact. Thank RGKnee too due to him and Shanahan no one is going to listen to the player going forward....

"my knee is fine coach"

*crunch*

"owwwwww"

media:"why you put him in with a bad knee"......

Cam probably isn't in as much danger as RG3 was and is certainly tougher than good ole bob but this OL should have any reasonable fan concerned with Cams health especially just by watching his face/body language during the last game. He was clearly feeling it out there and I'm not talking just standard football.

Smh...

Cam in the pocket >>>>>>>>>>> DA in the pocket.

This fan base is so out to lunch when it comes to knowing what we got at QB with Cam. Cam can literally make any throw from the pocket, you can't say that for about half of the starting QB's in the NFL today.

Cutler missed a ton of throws Monday night, missed an open Alshon high a few times, Brady missed guys with a clean pocket on Sunday, Manning throwing into triple coverage getting picked. When judging Cam you guys literally expect perfection. Watch some of these other guys play on Sunday and see just how often QB's miss guys/throws. You want to see an awful QB? Watch a Miami game and Ryan Tannehill, and he's actually a YEAR older than Cam.

And to think LaFell was Cam's #2 for the last however many years and he struggles to get on the field in NE for a team that has a weak WR group. Says alot about Cam.

    • I did.  He simply said s/he had no knowlege of it.  Said he had the injury in camp and sat for a few days--then said there was an announcement that he had foot surgery and nobody knows if it is related to the camp injury or not.  This person should know, but didn't.  The source is a journalist friend of mine but seemed a bit frustrated that the details have not been released (at least s/he did not have the details at the time).
