Mike Shula "We cant expect to win many games running the ball 10 times"

.Cam Newton is our QB. His worst throws have generally been the short ones.

i disagree. Newton's strength seems to be the short to intermediate passes. on long passes is when he tends to overthrow people (which is his biggest problem)

Meanwhile, the other side of the ball had a worse outing than the offense, and yet we don't have multiple threads to roast McDermott and company.

marguide normally i agree with you, but this was totally off the wall man. Shula has a history of putting a horrible product on the field and call it offense. I wanted to give him this year with more weapons to see if it was him or the personnel. i am quickly becoming convinced that it is him. if it continues much longer, i will want his head to roll. but your point about the defense is highly illogical. Sean McD puts a top 3 defense on the field for the vast majority of games since he came here.

I'm ok with living and dying by Cams arm given the current situation. But damn, he needs to change it up and grow a pair.

How about a HB sweep? Or some pitches fugging ANYTHING different and not something predictable.

Also I saw someone else post it, it'd be nice to see a varied cadence to the O. How about some hard counts to get some easy yards? Feel like we have the same snap count every play.

Just fugging change SOMETHING.

Shula's entire offense is based first and foremost on not turning the ball over. Any play that increases the chance of a turnover won't be called. Don't expect any pitches anytime soon.

Yeah I get that but any NFL team should feel confident enough to pitch the football.

He just needs a Riverboat Ron transformation ala post Vikings last year.

Your first response inferred the timeout was called and a run called because Newton was hurt..now u say something different.

I answered your inference by saying I'd sit a hurt Newton for a play, for a series whatever. Smart teams do that all the time vs. using a hurt QB in to run a key play.

As far as running, Newton is the offense when he is healthy. He can't or won't even roll in the pocket and that makes him a sitting duck. It is simply a matter of time with his lack of mobility, the poor oline, and Shulas play calls for long developing routes before something worse happens.

Cams threat of running is what makes him great. Defenses have to,scheme for it. Well they used to have to scheme for it

It goes hand in hand. Nothing is pure black and white.

Before the run call Newton was hit hard. He was visibly hurt walking to huddle and the sideline. He got hit on a short pass play after many successful passes. Eventually a defense won't play the run and will dial in on the pass if you never give them the run. Why Peyton calls unsuccessful runs often.

Bashing Shula for calling one run is just silly on that drive. He had to call it for a couple reasons.

Yes Cam's running makes him great. Makes our offense very efficient as well. Point remains DA doesn't do that stuff anyway so inserting him doesn't add something we are missing

We need the interior OL to play better if Panthers are going to have any success in the run game . They have the talent and instincts to dominate at the line of scrimmage, just need to get the chemistry right!

^^^ This

Silatolu has underperformed and might be a bust while Turner clearly isn't ready to play yet

i have no problem passing the ball if it's helping set up the run. passing should be this offense's strength.

It is, at least in comparison to the running game.  But its not that great.

We are near the bottom of the league in both yards per carry and yards per game.  We are top 10 though in passing yards per game.  But the two games we won, we won primarily because we forced turnovers, and didn't turn it over ourselves. We have to get better at running the ball if this season is to be a success.

So Shula sucks because he sucked in Tampa 10 years ago? In your mind, that defines him no matter what happens in Carolina?

Ok, so give me a short list of who we should get to replace him. Make sure they have never experienced any rough patches in their career up to now. Who ya got?

Shula is not elite / great because he has never produced a great offense in his career.

I aint said nothing about never experiencing any rough patches. Shula's entire career has been rough patches.

Hue Jackson was who we should have hired as OC instead of promoting a guy with nothing on his resume to hang a hat on.

Has Shula ever had good offensive talent? Carolina is the best offensive roster he has ever had.

Lots of coaches look like poo with poo talent. Good ones
