#23 in QB rating

#24 in passing yards

#27 completion percentage (58.8%)

#30 in TD%

#30 in yards per attempt

Rolling Stone magazine: "Tom Brady, currently owns a rating of 82.9 with just 5.5 Y/A. This despite the fact that the Patriots having faced a trio of porous passing defenses. At 37, Brady is younger than Peyton Manning, yet he's looked a decade older"

NFL.com today:

Tom Brady under attack

Brady is struggling to throw the ball deep, but too many plays have been torpedoed before they even had a chance. Pressure is getting to him in an instant and creating negative plays... The Patriots' problems have started up front... New England can't pass protect, and it's short-circuiting the team's offense. It comes back to coaching. Former Patriots offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia was the longest-tenured assistant in the NFL before retiring at the end last season after 30 years with the team. His groups nearly always were greater than the sum of their parts. (New OL coach) Dave DeGuglielmo took over, (perennial Pro Bowl LG) Logan Mankins was (shockingly) traded and the entire operation has fallen apart.

The Patriot Way.

You'd think with their window closing they'd hold onto skill players (Welker, Mankins) and suffer the cap hit later after Brady retires.

ESPN: Is Tom Brady in decline?

On Thursday’s First Take, unabashed Tom Brady fan Skip Bayless admitted that No. 12 has been "pretty awful" so far this season, "by Tom Brady standards."

...

"I’m going to have to admit publicly today, this is how concerned I am about Tom Brady at this point in the season. I’m so concerned, that I am going to say publicly I am not sure if he is in decline. I’m going to speak with my head over my heart with this one. ...

"I see that stat that Tom Brady is the worst in the league on accuracy at this point through three games. Twenty-seven percent of his passes are termed misthrows so far, that’s underthrows or overthrows. Twenty-seven percent. We’re talking about Tom Brady here."

Boston Herald: Teammates support Tom Brady despite heavy criticism

FOXBORO — While the offensive line has been targeted as the primary reason for an anemic Patriots offense, its future Hall of Fame quarterback also has been taking critical fire.

Tom Brady has been beat up by Dolphins and Raiders pass-rushers this season, and now he’s taking hits from pundits and fans. The 37-year-old’s game is being questioned and debated on a daily basis, as is his ability to lead the offense out of its funk.

Brady’s teammates came to his defense yesterday.

...

“He’s not washed up. He works hard like he always has,” running back Shane Vereen said.

...

Still, every move is being picked apart. People wonder if he’s missing open receivers because he’s being pounded or because he’s simply getting old.

“He used to be automatic, one bad throw every few games,” said former Pats offensive lineman Ross Tucker, now a host on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

...

“Maybe he’s not quite as crisp as he used to be. I know nobody ever wants to hear that Tom Brady is a descending player, but he is,” Tucker said. “He’s 37 years old. At some point, we’re going to all acknowledge he’s not quite as good as he used to be.”

...

Brady ranks 28th among NFL quarterbacks with a 82.9 passer rating, and his completion percentage is 58.8.

...

And what happened to Brady’s quick release? That’s another common complaint. He’s been on the receiving end of some less-than-favorable critiques before, but not like this.

Wow...the Pats needs to bench him...:)

they can't, they don't have anybody better. Their back-up is a 22-year-old rookie named Jimmy Garoppolo - although the Patriots are looking a lot smarter for taking Garoppolo 2nd R last draft when a lot of people criticized the Patriots for doing so at the time because they didn't think it was a need

But yes, for fantasy football purposes, it is time to bench Brady according to the fantasy experts for NFL.com, CBS, Washington Post, etc

NFL.com: "Forget the name, it's time to sit Tom Brady...This is an easy one... To put it another way, he's behind Derek Carr and Austin Davis in fantasy scoring. ... If Tom Brady wasn't " Tom Brady ", chances are most people would have put him on the waiver wire and found another option."

although Sporting News writes: "Brady hasn't looked like a starting fantasy QB this year, but the Chiefs haven't put up much of a fight against QBs, allowing 22.2 FPPG (tied for seventh). Stick with Brady for at least another week."

Washington Times:

"Brady ’s touchdown total (for the season) was equalled in a single game last week by Austin Davis . That’s right, the third-string quarterback of the Rams — the NFL’s most offensively deficient team — needed less than four quarters to throw as many touchdowns as Brady has in three games against three bad teams"

New York Post:

"After yet another mediocre performance from Brady in Sunday’s wholly uninspiring 16-9 home win over the Raiders... could we be seeing the beginning of the end for Brady?

...

he looked both harried and uncertain most of the day. It was a far cry from the Brady of even last season, and it’s not as if 2013 was a banner year for the Patriots star.

...

Considering Brady’s struggles, maybe it’s no longer a surprise that Bill Belichick drafted a quarterback — Jimmy Garoppolo — in the second round in May. It was the highest pick Belichick had used on a passer in the Brady era ... Brady, after all, is 37 years old"

(note: Joe Montana was 36 the last year he played for the 49ers. He played two more years for the Chiefs aged 37 to 38 before retiring. Dan Marino, Steve Young, Kurt Warner and John Elway were also 38 their last year in the NFL. Roger Staubach and Bart Starr made it to 37, Jim Kelly to 36, Terry Bradshaw to 35, Joe Namath and Troy Aikman to 34)

Boston Globe:

"Brady's regressed on the deep ball, no doubt. That slippage may have even been underway while Randy Moss was still around. Also of no doubt: He has missed open receivers this year. Happened more than usual last year, too, an anecdotal observation that shows up in his completion percentage.

...

the man is 37 years old. Of course there will be signs of regression. Despite evidence to the contrary, he is indeed human. He creaks when he wakes up on Monday mornings in a way that didn't happen when he was 26.

...

No, he's not what he once was. ... But can you win with him? I mean, of course. Absolutely. And it wouldn't surprise me a damn bit if that fourth Super Bowl is secured in a similar manner to the first three -- with Brady and a supporting cast, especially on defense, that assists him more than any has in at least seven years. (Patriots haven't won a Super Bowl since 2004)

...

The year the Patriots won their first Super Bowl, Jay Fiedler had more touchdown passes than Brady. So did Jeff Garcia, Aaron Brooks, and Brian Griese.

The year the Patriots won their most recent Super Bowl (2004), Daunte Culpepper, Donovan McNabb and Jake Delhomme all had more touchdown passes than Brady. The Patriots can win again without a great season from Brady"

He'll be fine, he hasn't needed to throw for 6 tds, so he has managed the game. He can go out and win just about any game.

it is true that Brady will have the least asked of him of pretty much any QB this season with the Super Bowl caliber D they have assembled in New England...

Patriots D this season

#2 in INTs

#2 Total D yards/play

#3 Total D ypg

#4 Scoring D
