Big Money and Recent Injuries

I think it has to do with the decimation at running back. People know its crucial, but feel more comfortable with Blackburn and Williams than they do Reaves. I say next man up, but we know TD is special.

What?!

I'd be more comfortable having you at RB than lose Davis. Taking out Hardy and now Davis going to make our D look very average. To a large degree our D has really been molded around Luke and TD from a scheme standpoint.

Ground game won't change much negatively with any JAG inserted.

D will change a noteworthy amount with a JAG in for TD

Whoa whoa whoa! Do not de-value the running back position that much!

We can barely run now, could barely run last year.....so inserting a JAG means what? What that we can still barely run?

There is a big drop off when u remove TD inserted some dude

Just watched the Lions game (defense only) on condensed to see if/where CJ was getting doubled:

- He was only doubled exclusively 1 time and it came when he lined up as a 3-4 RDE

- Doubled 2 times on run plays

- Chipped by the TE 3 times

- Played DT  3 times (all were pass rushes) and was singled against the G

- Stonewalled by TE Pettigrew 2 times (1 on a run, another singled in a pass rush and got dominated)

- Lined up in Hardy's spot for 15 snaps in pass situations.

PFF stats:

- 14 Run defense snaps

- 47 Pass rush snaps

- 1 Pass coverage snap

- Overall Stats 4 QB Hurries, 1 Tackle, -3.0 PFF grade

I'll gladly take a look at him verses the Steelers but it will have to be later tonight. Overall to me he just didn't have a high motor while singling him out on his pass rushes. And his single match ups worked best when he bull rushed (that's likely where the QB hurries were credited). They tried to pull stunts with him as DT and DE but nothing really developed. Hustle and overall speed just weren't there.

    • Just had Thanksgiving meal with a couple dozen family and friends. I lucked out and got one of the smoked turkey legs. Stuffing, mashed taters and gravy, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, kale, smoked ham, chicken and rice, corn, lima beans, cranberry sauce, and great people. My brother got his guitar out and we got to singing. Lots of actual conversations with people I hardly  ever get to see, haven't seen in a while, or who I never met before. Just a great moment to remember.
    • 3-8 would be a higher win percentage than 3-9
    • Same... With the personnel the Niners had, that defense could have been historically good in the right hands. Under Wilks they were certainly good, they didn't quite rise to that level. Honestly, I see Wilks kinda like I see Rivera: fantastic person, decent head coach. Skill wise, phenomenal DB coach, so-so DC. His greatest strength is his leadership. Hard to find many better in that department. In the Xs and Os / execution area though, not as good. Bottom Line: Wilks is the sort of coach that needs a staff that excels in those aspects of the game where he's weaker. But, like Rivera, I don't know that he scouts assistants very well. That as much as anything might be why he's not in the NFL now.
