We will never do anything to benefit the offense, ball control and taking time off the clock is all done towards helping the defense stay fresh. Running a no huddle offense only increases the chances of the defense being on the field longer and that aint how Rivera does things.

 

i agree with you. but i unlike the poster you quoted, i dont think the No Huddle will help this offense click. i think we need to focus on short, quick passes and run the rock in short yardage situations. thats what Pittsburgh did against our defense and it worked. if the ball gets out quick, the defense doesnt have time to get to the QB.

 

if Mike Shula doesnt impliment this immediately (and the 2/3-TE sets) i will be pissed. if he doesnt impliment it by the end of the season, i will be a loud voice calling for his head. his style of offense could work if he was willing to tweak its specifics just a little bit. but he doesnt seem to be. and until he does, he is what is holding this team down. offensive line issues can be overcome through play calling. he doesnt seem willing to change his end of that and it shows his incompetence.

We have a very young OL, and a somewhat inexperienced QB playing a 34 D run by one of the best defensive minds the NFL has ever seen.

 

 

Cam is not in a place yet where he can recognize every package on the field.  When I talk about Cam taking the next step, this is what I'm talking about.  It's not the arm, the accuracy, or the feet, it's the pre snap reads....and that is freaking tough.  Especially when I'm not confident in the coaching that he is getting from the OC and QB coach.

I mean we averaged 12.5 points in 6 games against it dating back to last season, including the playoffs. We're 2-4 in that time. We move the ball, but struggle to score points. We're 2-11 in the redzone. Didn't make it to the redzone against San Fran the first game and Pittsburgh. Our average is 289 yards. We put up more yards than San Fran twice and the Arizona. Pitts & N.O twice put up more yardage than we did. Only twice we put up more TD's than all of them hence the 2-4 record. You may think well yeah, but you can win with FG's though, they add up. We kicked more FG's than TD's. The main issue is TD's. I just watched the Browns of all teams put up 27 and the Ravens did 26 on them. We didnt score our 1st TD until the 4th quarter and the other one until the game was over. If we can score atleast 3 TD's against it then that'll say something. IMO we definitely need 2 before the start of the 4th or you'll be looking at a defensive struggle all game and it doesn't have to be that against middle of the pack defense. I think it already proves itself to me, but we'll see Sunday

Ravens run a hybrid defense that is a cross between 3-4 and 4-3, they use both.  Its a way different defense than Pitt, but still pretty darn good.  I would like to see more 2 TE sets, as i am sure most of the huddle would as well.

Isn't the online supposed to communicate with each other though? Yes those 3 man rushes happen, but its the confusion and the way they were lined up that threw the oline off. They put 5 guys up there and only rush 3 and at times there were delayed blitzes

1st or 2nd and 15 or 20 is tough to recover from with shotty blocking.  penalties on both sides of the ball were a huge factor to.  but we generally have struggled with 3-4 defenses, especially when the mlb blitzes.

So, am I the only one here who thinks that if we played Pittsburgh again this Sunday we would spank them, and spank them hard?  We didn't lose because of the defense they played, we lost because our defense gave up 23 points and we lost another 7 on special teams.  When we had to, we moved the ball well.  Sure, we gave up on the run too soon, and we surrendered a lot of sacks, but all in all it wasn't the offense that lost the game for us.

 

Here's a news flash.  Every team in the league plays a 3-4 front at times.  Some teams play it as their base defense, but even they go 4-3 at times, and yes, they have nickel packages where they send 4 linemen and drop into max coverage.  Some teams like a 4-3 front, but even those sometimes drop a DE back into coverage or line them up at an OLB position.  It's all about how you disguise what you're doing, and how much you can confuse the offensive line.  And Pittsburgh confused the poop out of our OL this past Sunday.  How else are you gonna explain Kalil getting beat for two sacks?  Or three guys consistently beating five?

 

On our OL we have Bell and Kalil as our veteran leadership.  We have Chandler, who was playing on the other side a couple years ago.  Turner is going to be a star in 2017, but he's a rookie now.  And Amini may as well be, for how much actual playing time he has.  Dick LeBeau knows this, and took advantage.  It won't happen again.

 

3-4 or 4-3, it doesn't matter.  We officially have an embarrassed and angry offensive line, and I expect them to be MUCH better in Baltimore this weekend.  The defense too, but who's really worried about them anyway?

i really think the hardy drama durring the week took the focus off of the game, and was a huge distraction. Im suprised that hasnt been brought up. The whole situation obviously rattled and pissed the organisation the fug off, just look at rivera.
