Eagles Not Looking Too Hot!

I know a lot of people praise the Eagles front office, and justly deserved, but I felt that after they lost to the Panthers in the 03 playoffs they have focused too much on skilled positions and have left both of their lines in jeperody. It's not that they didn't draft or sign players but so much empahsis was place on getting a WR or getting someone to backup Westbrook.

With that said, I think that the Eagles are going to have a problems out of their lines this year and that was evident in last night's game. The offensive line looks very pedestrian and the defensive line looked lost at times. And I am talking about the starting units. The backups looked better and it would not surprise me if some of those backups end up really competing for starting roles.

However, don't take this team lightly. Mobile type QB's, and McNabb is still that, have proven in the past that they can win games even when their line is horrible. Just look at the 08 Steelers for proof. And the Eagles do have the skilled players in place now that gives McNabb a lot of options. The defense is where I would be more worried if I was a Eagles fan. Not based on talent, although that is a concern, but on leadership. Losing both Johnson (RIP) and Dawkins in one offseason is going to hurt especially early in the season. If other players and coaches are able to step up, and they could, then the Eagles could be a lot better team at the end of the season than they are going to be at the begining. Thankfully, that good for Panthers.

The Eagles defense is the biggest reason they have been consistent contenders, not their O. I think I read that JJ's defenses have held opponents to an average of 17.7 points or so since 2000 which I believe is 4th in the entire NFL over that span.

That's exactly the reason that I question the defense more than the offense. Losing Johnson and Dawkins was big and it will at least take time to recover from that.

I think the Lions were the only team that went undefeated last year in preseason....... see how that turned out....

the eagles looked really bad in preseason last year as well an hey got a little further than we did.

i think they are very beat up and will probably have a rough start to the year, much like last year, but once they get in the groove get the new weapon in, they might be a bit tough like last year.

peters is more looking like the LT that gave up 16 sacks last year. it sounds like injury is his excuse but from what i can tell he isn't what i look for when i want to give someone a $60 mil deal.

Nobody said anything about wins and losses. I think we all know games are won and lost by third and fourth stringers. I am more concerned about how the starters and primary backups perform, I think that can tell you a lot about certain guys.

Peters for instance was pathetic, Donovan was inaccurate, but McCoy looked explosive and ran hard. These are things that you can take away and say, wow they need to improve or wow they might have a pretty good season.

One thing about the Eagles. When it counts, they come to play, even if they have nothing but scrubs. I, for one, have put a gigantic question mark beside that game.

Preseason doesn't matter at all. I dont' care how bad a team looks. Preseason doesn't matter at all.

That is why Buffalo refused to give him the bank. They acutally offered him the biggest deal in Bills history and he said to shove it.

Seems like with the way Wood played on the OL the other night, and how badly Peters is still sucking, Buffalo got the better of this deal.

I think he did but it wasn't much.

Their TE Celek went out in the game with some injury, no idea if serious or not. I would doubt it. The kid was really coming on at the end of the year last year. I think their O will be pretty hard to stop if they look like they did (not points wise, but moving the ball with ease) the other night. Pats were using this really weird D almost like a 6-1 with Mayo in the middle and they were getting gashed by the run. The Eagles had some RZ issues last year on O though. Well the Pats have been an awful RZ/3rd down D for two years in a row also so take it FWIW.

Just wondering since it has been reported that Jackson has been uncoverable in camp. If another Eagle's game is televised, on anything other than NFLN, i'll have to tune in. Not just for the skill players, but to check out their o-line.
