How long is the Huddle gonna defend Shula?

The Cam fanboys blame Shula 100% because that allows then to deflect all blame from Cam.

This was an equal opportunity sickest of a game. Everyone did their part.

Game plan was not strong.

Cam did not execute.

OL sucked

Defense gave up big plays

Penalties on both sides of the ball

Muffed punt for a TD

Bottom line was that everyone did their part at stinking up a prime time game

Cam has been solid. Say what you want about him not being able to use his legs but for the second straight game he has been a good passer

I think Shula needs to realize our running game isnt wat it used to be and get the ball to reliable players like Olsen or even KB so far. Its nonsense running the ball when it puts us in 3rd and long situations which ends up killing our momentum and stalling our drives.

Traditional run sucked last year. Sucks more this year.

He hardly even ran it on Sunday. So he is doing what you ask really

Am I the only one who notices that the o line appears to play better with Anderson behind center ?

Or is it a coincidence Anderson has only seen time against possibly the worst team in the NFL and garbage time on Sunday (against a team that had backups all over the field at the end)

Passing wise i guess but I feel like he isnt getting the ball to Olsen and KB often enough. We shouldnt have been celebrating KB and Olsen's garbage yards/TDs, we should have done that when the defense made all those chances for the offense to put points on the board.

You have to recognize opponents know Olsen and KB are the only 2 threats.

I would ask about McDermott before Shula.  Did you see any adjustment?  Spread us out, CBs playing soft.  DEs rushing hard.  I noticed the Pittsburgh back side tackles taking drop steps on running plays and luring the DEs outside and then riding them out for the RB to cut back.  Even when they threw the ball, most of the passes were out in 2.5 seconds.  Why?  because our CBs were playing soft.  What to do?

Squeeze the DEs and take away the run.  Jam the WRs with the CBs.   Blitz Harper or a LB to create pressure from a variety of places.  I did not see it.  We just let them pick our guts out while we watched.

But you can blame Shula.  Our OL could not run block and they were terrible pass blocking.  Our starting RB and a starting WR were out, but it would have made no difference.  Shula should have run more, but it is hard to call a run play when you average 2 yards per carry.  Easier if you are getting 3, but hard if 2 is the norm.

You people that continue to support Shula are just fooling yourselves. The guy has sucked ass everywhere he has gone. We will not win ANYTHING in the playoffs (that is if we get there) with him calling plays. Blame it on the O-line all you want, but who is the one calling long developing plays knowing his O-line sucks? You see what Todd Haley did yesterday for the Steelers. Quick screens, crossing patterns, drags, just putting Ben in a comfortable position where he doesn't get hit and gets the ball out fast. What does Shula do for his hurt QB? 15 yard outs, 10 yard comeback routes, etc. On run plays, what does he do? Run the ball right up the middle everytime. No misdirections, sweeps, traps, or strech plays. It's a damn joke. The most non-creative O-coordinator.

actually, Ben calls 99% of the plays ...  had a segment on it before one of their games a few weeks ago.

I 100% agree that Cam has been solid....but he has made his share of mistakes. My point was that the offenses performance is not just Shula on Shula like some want to claim.

Anderson is a vet. He gets the ball out much quicker than Cam because his is not a mobile QB. Cam holds the ball much longer. That is a fact.

Cam should develop in the area every year.

Biggest issue with the offense is our inability to effectively run the ball. It is as simple as that.

I dont think there's anyone on the huddle that thinks Shula is solely to blame for our mess of an offense.

What people (I) am saying is

Shula is not a good, great, or elite OC.

He does us no favors with the pieces that we have.

At absolute best he is an average playcaller.

Cam is one of the most dynamic QB's in the game.

By default since Shula is not a great OC he needs to be replaced / upgraded.

Yeah. People are missing the point that an OC is supposed to compensate for a shitty O-line, not play into the hands of the defense.

That's one of my main points of contention with Shula and his supporters. You have to be able to adjust to the ebb and flow of the game. When Shula and our offense gets in trouble, they just get deeper and deeper into trouble because of a loack of situational awareness.
