Steve Smith Taking Shots at Cam Now

People here truly take the truth and bend it.  Steve was nothing but a professional in the last few years that I've watched him play.  He never truly vocalized that he wanted out in the way that I've seen MANY do.  Often stated that he wanted a true #1 so he could really excel.  To everyone saying how he didn't mentor them. MAN UP. It's amazing to have that veteran leadership, but not every rookie has someone better than them to play Daddy and coddle them.  The truth is Jarrett bust (loved his college game and had high hopes), Lafell Decent #3; but not a starter, K. Johnson (over the hill) Colbert, Carter and the rest BUSTS.  The only true weapon at WR we brought in has been KB from the looks of it.... why would we wait until he's out of the door to use a high pick or actually bring in a great free agent.

Long story short. The man had no WR help here, he wanted it...he even would've stayed despite not having it or a pass first Offensive Scheme.  We let him go, he's excelling.  Let's all move on.

Was he being professional when he tore all of his stuff out of his personal suite and pouted for 3 months?

This week I hate him. He is the enemy. After next week I hope he plays great. But i am going to talk poo all week.

I don't give a poo if he still thinks he is Papa Smurf

I think Steve's comments and actions since his release should inform us as fans of the Panthers about how he sees the subject of his release and how we should treat it as well: Now that we are not his team he will use us to fuel his fire, the same way he used other teams and players to fuel his fire before. He is treating us just like any other team he decides he has a bone to pick with. When our fans attempt to do the same they are attacked by people who think we owe him more respect. Right now, we owe him no respect and no well wishes. When he returns to retire I assume both he and our fans will revert to their former love. To attack our fans for attempting to treat him the way he wants to be treated is a waste of breath.

Game plan should be to get a late hit on him. Let him blow up and throw a punch. Get him ejected. Done.

Yeah, so off the top of my head I can think of plenty of late hits on 89 over the years and not a single punch or ejection. It's ridiculous how some people have adopted the national ingnorance-based view of Smitty just bc he's a Raven now.

The Dallas Cowboys game where he touched the ref on the shoulder out of bounds that ended with Julius peppers blocking a field goal that was ruled as hitting the kicker late to allow the Cowboys to win.

Theres one.

Honestly this is a great example of changing it around.  It's easy to word it like that... also you could say, he took his things out of his suite and made the in house request to leave.  I didn't personally see him pout or whine like a baby, and I doubt many did either.

This week I hope he get's pulverized as well. Let's not get that misconstrued. Especially after his infamous quote Week 1.

I just hate that people are making him into this villain that he was not (towards the end).

Personally the last image I remember of Steve was him fighting through injury and scoring our ONLY TD in our playoff loss, followed by him consoling our rising Star QB on the bench as he was down.

i think it's not out of the realm of possibility that smitty was such a strong personality that Cam really couldn't take control of this team. Forget the posters talking about the fights, thats not smitty anymore. And like you said those other recievers were truly busts. I will never bring that up like other posters.

but....

Where smitty would seemingly scream at KB for dropping passes/ignore him, each time Cam went up to KB slapped him on the butt and said you'll get the next one, keep your head up. then KB makes an insane 1st down catch that moved the chains when we needed it. Guys who are actually in the organization were saying he was a headache. that's not unbelievable.

This isn't far fetched at all. Look at the comradery of this team right now, it's crazy good. Smitty was always kind of his own person, his own deal. Nothing wrong with that but this org made the decision based on that and the big elephant in the room. a 35, 36, 37 year old making 20+ million. we went young, and look where we are now. both parties should be happy. smitty is balling out. we look like a superbowl team.

We, as fans, aren't playing him. I hope he has 0 catches and 0 yds against us, but I wish him all the best building his HOF resume otherwise.

You said it yourself, he's using his release as another chip on his shoulder. That's the type of thing that made him a great player for us. If you understand that, then there's no reason to take it personally.

Honest question. Not looking for debate.

I assume the consensus has been made as far as us releasing him.  Someone explain how it was beneficial to cut him (besides looking to give leadership to our younger players.)

Again I repeat. Not looking for debate in response to this.

*I've heard about how cutting him saves us money 2 years down the line but it conflicts with other accounts.
