Vick is an Eagle

"The right thing to do?????" In the sense I take that (giving a guy a job he may not deserve because he's an ex-con so you can look all righteous)...PUKE.

What, are they writing off his salary under charitable contributions?

If it is meant in the sense of they vouch that it will work out fine for the franchise, then ok.

All I know is that Dungy is in a win-win situation here because I agree with this guy:

Tony Dungy. The upside to treating the press with a modicum of civility during one’s playing/coaching career is that the media is quick to brand whatever you do in retirement as Bold and Courageous. Opening a chain of barbecue restaurants in an already over-saturated market? Bold and Courageous. Eradicating crab grass in the backyard? Bold and Courageous. Helping a convicted dogfighter get a second chance in the NFL? Bold and Courageous. It’s not that Dungy shouldn’t be helping Vick — I think most people can agree that, as stomach-churning as Vick’s crimes may have been, a league that gives a second chance to Leonard Little should probably give one to Michael Vick. I just don’t get what separates Dungy from Joel Segal or any of the players who’ve said they would welcome Vick on their team. At least those people have to weather public backlash. Backing Vick is a win-win for Dungy: If the quarterback goes straight, Dungy is the savior. If Vick gets in trouble, he will have BETRAYED TONY DUNGY. Standing on principles is a lot easier when you’re always right.

Wow. A west coast offense team signing Vick?

Wonder how many years it'll take to learn the offense this time :nonod:

I'd also have to echo the sentiment that wonders why the Eagles seem to constantly want to piss off (or piss on) Donovan McNabb. I'm not the world's biggest McNabb fan but still he's the face of the franchise and he's been one of their biggest ticket draws for a long time. With his future still up in the air, why slap him in the face now?

Yes, they need a backup QB, but Vick hasn't exactly been the ideal west coast guy. I'd also have to check but my perception is that the Eagles receivers aren't exactly shopping in the big and tall shop, so his vision will be an issue again. The Eagles could have signed a decent backup west coast QB and paid less money while avoiding the inevitable QB controversy.

One thing I have to admit though: While I feel sorry for guys like JR and Cor, there's a wicked little part of me that knows the eventual influx of Vick worshippers onto the Eagles board (and the resulting MCF) could be pretty entertaining :sosp:

They think this will further motivate McNabb. Same with the benching last year.

The media went cuckoo about the one game sit down and nobody talked about Warner having to win his spot after sitting...a couple of YEARS.

It's a two prong attack by the FO. Grab a guy who can be plugged in and some plays designed just for his skills.

Push a guy that know very well his buttons and hope this puts them over the top.

The key for Philly will the the O line.

Weird. I would think he (and Goodell) would look like a fool if Vick either gets in trouble again or simply doesn't perform to expectations.

I wonder whether we'll see something similar with Dante Stallworth. Not likely since he isn't a household name.

Doubtful. Stallworth doesnt play QB. As long as thats the case, he'll be welcomed back with open arms and without much fanfare.

What is it with your hard-on over people supposedly hating on black QBs for their blackness? Is it because you believe that the 'conventional' thinking is that a black man is not 'smart' enough to play QB? Or is it something else? Serious question...

After watching the press conference, I am on the fence. I mean, this guy financed an entire operation. All the nasty things that go on...he was responsible for. This wasn't a guy who showed up with his one pit bull and fought it.

But I liked what I heard. If this guy can actually get through to thug larvae everywhere that animal abuse is fugged up, maybe him coming back and staying in the spotlight is a positive.

I can't believe Philly paid him that much. Damn.
