Boycott Harris Teeter - Selling Steelers #1 cookies

SCP

Recommended Posts

If you want to make money from Steelers fans. Open a store in Pittsburgh. There is no excuse, the negative will this generates from your core customers is worth far more than a 7 dollar cookie cake.

It doesn't sit well with me either, I'm just explaining why you see cakes like this. During the superbowl you'll see cakes decorated with the competing teams as well as balloons and other party supplies for people throwing superbowl parties. I don't see anyone calling for boycotts of stores that sell steelers jersey's or hats.

Wow a lot of hate going on here, as an employee of the corporate office let me clear a few things up.

1) Bakery managers are encouraged to come up with their own creative idea's that could be profitable, especially seasonal opportunity's. You'll see these cookie cakes take on all different types of designs that are relevant to whatever might be going on that week. This isn't Harris Teeter making a claim that they think the Steelers are great, it's a Bakery manager thinking that there will probably be some Steelers fans throwing parties to watch the game this weekend. The problem lies within the large number of Steelers fans in the community. If you have a problem with the cookie cakes, voice your concern with your local Deli/Bakery manager.

2) Harris Teeter is a major sponsor for the Carolina Panthers, and has been for a long time. But you guys gotta understand it's a business relationship. Harris Teeter sponsors the Redskins in the DC area as well.

3) I've seen a lot of people posting that things have gone downhill since the Kroger merger. No one made a call down to the stores and said "hey guys now that Kroger owns us you can stop caring." Harris Teeter is still operated out of Matthews, and still employs a whole lot of Charlotteans.

I've worked for this company since I was 16, and I can say without a doubt it's a great company that anyone from Charlotte can be proud of. The company stresses the best service and selection in the industry. Seeing people bad mouthing Harris Teeter makes me feel the same as any of us feel when people bad mouth the Panthers.

I don't spend a dime at a bar or restaurant if I learn it's a "home team bar" for some team other than the Panthers. No worries man, I'll just buy my groceries at another store until that crap is gone. There is a Publix just up the road.

If i'm seeing things correctly that table has a lot of panthers merchandise on it as well.  Harris Teeter hasn't stated it's a home team grocery store for steelers fans, the sad fact is those cakes will sell here because of the large steeler fan base. No one said anything about lions cakes last week, because there probably were none. We all know some steelers fans, we work with them, live near them, hell I'm actually friends with one. I'm not some corporate shill here for damage control, I'm actually just an intern. There are only three things I'm a bigger fan of than Harris Teeter, and that's the Carolina Panthers, Charlotte Hornets, and Charlotte 49ers. I'm not here to tell you where to shop, but if you wanna stop visiting the company that donates millions to local schools and charities for one from Florida, all over some cookie cake, maybe reconsider your priorities.
