LOL at those of you who think that the QBs who got boned by the original rookie salary cap are gonna be willing (or should) "give the team a break" when it comes to their first openly negotiated contract.

Yup!

The system was set up so the non performers would get substandard contracts or released, and the outstanding ones would get their big pay day and windfall. It's still a win win for the teams, even in Cam's circumstance.

If we can keep Cam at or below 20mil per year we'll be fortunate.

That would go a long way towards keeping the team competitive given cap limitations.

If not we'll pay whatever and suffer elsewhere.

QBs with Cam's ability don't come along often.

Consider being in a position another team just put themselves in.

is that photoshopped or is he that much of a douchebag to sign with a quill?

The only thing that really matters is the guaranteed amount. That isn't that much more than rookies were getting for being the number 1 pick I every year before Cam was drafted. We got the benefit of seeing how he turned out first and then got to decide what he is worth. He has shown that he is the real deal and deserves to get paid a ton. We can make enough unguaranteed and on the back end to protect us in the event he ends up like Jake with a career ending injury.

I wouldn't say the only thing that matters. Guaranteed money only really comes into play if you are looking to cut or trade a player. If he plays out his contract the total matters. His cap hit will also include the non guaranteed money for the years he does play.

I do agree with you though I hope the contract is structured In a way that gives us some flexibility in the future.

If we're gonna shell out that kinda money we BETTER have at least another NFC championship under our belts. Otherwise, play hard ball g-man.

There is only so much hard ball you can play. We have him under contract for 2015 because of his option year. The following year we can franchise him. At some point though he will be a free agent and the market will set his price. A GM has the ability to overpay. It is up to the player if they want to receive less then market.
