6 years, $150,250,000, $54,000,000 guaranteed, Projected contract for Cam

He's going to get paid.  Get over it.  The consequences of paying him an exorbitant amount of money pale in comparison to the consequences of letting him go to another team or trying to low ball him and essentially give him a series of one year extensions.  All this talk about "he hasn't won a playoff game" is idiocy.  In this league the qb position is the only position that is paid according to "possible future performance" and not according to "what have you done for me lately".  What is so difficult to grasp about this concept?

Keep all your personal wishes and pipedreams (ie pay him after he wins a superbowl or playoff game) out of the equation.  According to that logic, Marino should never have been paid anything.  He will be payed a ridiculous amount of money based on future performance projections and due to the fact that elite quarterbacks are harder to find than a virgin in a Catholic High School.

Oh and for those that keep insisting "Cam cares more about winning than he does money", I'm sure Cam does but guess what?  His agent Bus Cook does not.  And his agent will be handling all the negotiations.  For the Nth time, Bus Cook is not known for his generosity to teams/organizations when it comes to getting his clients contracts.

jack poo is the answer to that question.  cutler at least won a playoff game which is more than can be said for the other two.

dalton has been absolutely horrible in the playoffs so i don't know why his name keeps getting brought up.  1 TD to 6 INTs and a QB rating of 56.  oh yeah and he just signed a big extension too.

Dalton's name is brought to show that playoff success does not guarantee what type of contract you will get. Those three have been horrible in the playoffs yet still got paid very well. Expect Cam regardless of how we do in the playoffs this year to get paid in their area. Any team can find average qbs like schaub, hassel, moore, etc but you need playmaking qb's in today's nfl to go anywhere. Having a defense alone will not get it done.

Well I got my years mixed up, I meant 2011 and 2012 he was terrible. Last year he had a bounce back year.

I was talking about the back to back seasons when he had a cumulative 35 INTs and 24 fumbles. And was generally terrible.

Playing for a lame duck coach, no weapons, and a generally terrible O line will do that to you.

I don't know. In 2010 he had 13 picks and 7 fumbles and through 2 games this year he has 1 pick and 3 fumbles.

Maybe last year was the fluke.

He throws the ball decently, but he throws a lot of picks and fumbles the ball ALL THE TIME.

Although in fairness the fumbles I am using aren't all lost fumbles, but still.

Honestly, you should watch him play instead of going off of stats alone.  He completely controls that offense, and dices folks up.  So far he has played the Seahawks, and carved them, and the Cardinals (really good D) and should have won that game going away.

Worth the read.

Cam Newton won13 and lost22 games prior to last years 12-5 record.so was it cam that improved dramatically as an offensive weapon or our elite #2 ranked defense?by the way, past 48 superbowl champs on average have been ranked 3 positions better than their opponent in total defense.

Some real short memories here and a total lack of understanding about the market for QBs. There would be 10 teams willing to drop that cash on Cam.

I guess we should trade for Jimmy Clausen or bring Jake Delhomme to refresh memories here.

The Buffalo BIlls are just now sorta finding their first QB since JIM KELLY!

Its not that easy to get these guys.

What was Carolina's record the year before Cam arrived.

And have you forgotten how many times the defense blew the lead late in 4th quarters during Cam's first two seasons?

Cam was always good since he arrived.

It was the defense, coaching, special Teams, and Cam (with emphasis on the defense, coaching, and special teams) that all improved for last years record.
