Sounds like another massive ignition switch recall is incoming for GM.

 

But seriously you need to make GM corp feel your pain. Escalate over the dealer level, be persistent.

You either need it bought back or given an extremely sweet deal on a new car.

Cars are safer than SUVs. Not sure why so many people think the exact opposite. Especially with regards to children. SUVs are far more dangerous for small children.

If you want a safe vehicle for children run away from GM and large utility vehicles.

2015 Volkswagen Golf Sportwagen TDI is probably gonna be the best all around family vehicle this calendar year. $24-32k depending on options.

- turbocharged & intercooled diesel engine (stupid reliable)

- 50+ miles per gallon

- all wheel drive

- 3,500lb tow capacity

- just as roomy and just as much storage ability as SUV

- excellent IIHS Ratings; extremely safe vehicle

Full-size sedan or wagon will be a safer option for a family vehicle. Audi, BMW, Volvo, Volkswagen, Toyota, Nissan, Ford, etc... Plenty of options, too.

FYI...As a former GM engineer....

GM makes 3 excellent vehicles:

Cadillacs

Corvettes

1/2 ton trucks

Everything else they make is garbage.

Simple: trade it in, get any value you can out of it, and run run run from any GM product.
