Should we go after Vincent Jackson from Tampa Bay?

Let's say the stars aligned and we traded for him. Who or what would you be willing to give up? If we traded picks for him who would you cut to make room for him on the roster?

Maybe he'd be good on our team, but I think he's on the other side of the plateau of his career.

ok I'll play. I'd negotiate like this:

"Yeah, he's tall, but he's not as fast or young as he used to be. Your team is in shambles, with your 3rd coach, offensive, and defensive scheme in 4 years. You've traded away several draft picks, including a first rounder, for a 1-year rental on Darrell Revis. Since it's nearly impossible to sign away a franchise QB in free agency, you'll have to draft one, something you've tried and failed at repeatedly. Seems your best move is to trade for either RG3 or Kirk Cousins. How about I send you either DeAngelo Williams, Charles Godfrey, and the 7th round pick we received from Philadelphia for Kenjon Barner."

I send D-Will and Godfrey to make salary cap room for V-Jax since D-Will is older w/ a big $$$ contract and Godfrey is making too much $$$ to be a back-up safety and nickel CB. I'm willing to bet that either Whittaker, Reaves, or Seastrunk could spell Stewart with the perimeter runs.

With Munnerlyn and Mitchell getting plenty of snaps on their new teams and Ginn getting a score, we should get some compensatory picks in the draft to make up for the one we traded away. But since the comp picks can't be traded, use our remaining 6th rounder to move up in the 4th or 5th round to grab a guy like we did with Benwikere.

Do NOT trade away O-line or D-line. Big, fast guys are hard to find and small, fast guys are called CBs or Safety, and there's plenty of those around.

Tampa, after trading several of their picks for a QB, will have a viable offense with D-Will and Martin, WR Evans and Owusu, and TE Myers and Rastafarian-Jenkins or whatevs. Not gonna help their front 7, but their back 4 is better with Godfrey. And a pretty even swap salary-wise, too.

It's just not realistic considering cap constraints, the conservative nature in which G-man covets his picks, and the fact that teams don't like trading key pieces to division foes.

I would much rather try and obtain a receiver like...like...Denarius Moore :) .  He has the speed that is missing from our offense, is a legitimate play maker, should be open to a short term contract, and should be cheap to acquire.

Hey I was playing along with the premise of getting V-Jax here. Would never happen like that cuz of the salary cap and being in the same division of course, but he premised if the stars aligned, so I ran with it.

Yes, Gettleman covets his picks, but he wasn't afraid to trade our 7th rounder and our 5th rounder to move up in the 5th round to get Benwikere. Gettleman seems confident in his ability to spot UDFA talent, so I used that train of thought for trading the 6th rounder. Would probably be another RB that wouldn't last anyway.

We should create a time machine and trade for Jerry Rice in his prime.

A 5th rounder and an iPad should do it. Do you realize how valuable an iPad would be in the late 80's?

With no wireless network of any great capacity?  And was WiFi even around back then?  Not so sure.  The advanced technology headstart could be worth something though, as long as it doesn't wind up giving rise to Terminators.

In any case, after tears of watching Marty Hurney trade away picks, I like the idea of going into drafts with a full set.

My response wasn't directed at you, it was answering the OP.

I know you are basically just killing time for entertainment value.

Heckle all you want, I don't feel bad about it. It was for fun, and I had fun thinking it up. The key parts were getting V-Jax and that the stars aligned. Of course the salary cap doesn't work like that, and we'd never NEVER EVER trade in the division, just roll with it. Assuming the salaries had to be roughly equal, logical thing to do is trade away some depth to get V-Jax. Why not trade away older and more costly guys? They get hurt more, play in less games, and are generally slower than the younger guys.
