According to sources, a first violation would be a referral, a two-game fine for a second offense, a four-game fine for a third offense, a four-game suspension for a fourth offense and a 10-game suspension for a fifth offense and a banishment for at least a year for a sixth offense.

 

Those are some pretty significant changes in the timetable.

 

Also, per Aaron Wilson, HGH testing will start by the end of this month.

If I have read this correctly, HGH testing is going to begin at the end of this month.  Guys i'm concerned about on the Panthers?  I'm concerned about swole bones, Brandon Williams.  Not because of his character.  I'm not trying to accuse him of anything.  I love his story and am pulling for him to succeed.  However, he either has a rare set of genes, and is a total freak of nature, or he is juicing on something.  Hope it is the former rather than latter.

 

I should preface that comment by saying that I would almost prefer that the league allow HGH and steroids to some degree.  I would really prefer that the drugs did not exist at all, but that is unrealistic.  Specifically, I mean that PEDs would be administered by a physician under a controlled environment, under a predetermined regimen, or specific set of circumstances.  Allegedly, there are known benefits to PEDs in regards to recovery and avoidance of injury.  

 

As long as the league continues to ban them, players will find a way to cheat the system and use them.  It just seems imbalanced.  The goal is to have a level playing field, which I support.  Perhaps the league just needs to implement testing that is actually effective and realistic in detecting the usage of the drugs.  Once a month and players will perhaps cycle on and cycle off to avoid getting caught.  They need to come up with a realistic way to keep the playing field even across the board.

 

I admit, I am ignorant as to how long HGH stays in the bloodstream. I hope that none of the Panthers are using the stuff.  Of course, Todd Sauerbrun, a punter, was on steroids, so I wouldn't be surprised if any player was found using HGH.

HGH testing is still in the early stages and is VERY difficult to detect.  Any athlete that is going out of their way to use it will also go out of their way to avoid doing things that would bring a positive test.

 

Sure, there will be the occasional idiot or unlucky person (testing has to take place very close to the time of injection to fail), but for the most part, it will be just enough for the NFL to show that they are taking the steroid situation seriously.
