Goodell needs to be fired

I took you up on the suggestion, and did look it up.

From Wiki: A trial de novo is usually ordered by an appellate court when the original trial failed to make a determination in a manner dictated by law.

I'mnot privy to the actual legal proceeding Hardy had in July, but EVERY article I found says he was CONVICTED.

A conviction doesn't sound like a situation where a determination was not found, but I sure as hell am not a lawyer.

But as I have said, legal loopholes or lingo aside..the only thing the media, haters, league...etc are seeing is CONVICTED.

As soon as he was granted a jury trial, his guilty verdict was set aside. In the eyes of the NC law, he is currently innocent until proven guilty during that jury trial.

I'm not a fan of Goodell but I don't think this crap is all on him. He's just the only guy who's in the public eye. He gets paid the big bucks to take these bullets. It's kinda like the US President. He gets all the hate and blame, but in reality he's just a public figure who has very little power.

I get what you're trying to say but I don't agree with this comparison.  POTUS has the power to issue executive orders, pardon, command our armed forces, veto legislation, appoint top officials and nominate judiciary positions including the Supreme Court among many many others.  Not to mention the incredible passive influence the position carries.  The President is far more than a public figure.

You guys are acting like Goodell actually beat women and kids. Mistakes were made for sure but they aren't even close to firing the commish over it. If the president or some other CEO made a mistake like this then you would have a new guy every month or 2.

My personal take on this issue. Goodell is actually the first commish that really cares about the personal conduct of players and he is making it his personal goal to make sure these players are held accountable for their actions. In the past, if someone had killed someone/past domestic issues/etc then you would slap a 4-6 game suspension and be done with it. That is pretty much how it is handled in most sports now and in the past. You get a slap on the wrist and suspended a few games. No one really cared.

You are still assuming that the court of public opinion gives a darn about this. I mean seriously..the man was convicted, gets an appeal that basically says the conviction is thrown out and gets another trial.

Yet it still doesnt erase the fact that he was convicted..that a judge heard the evidence, and decided to convict. Everything else after that will, (being completely legal of course)...go through the process..but I will say for the THIRD or FOURTH time...the NFL obviously isnt making determinations about who should and should not be removed from the league based in final proceedings, and certainly not the media or general public.

The fact that he is able to have this hearing under this laws basically says "yes, I was convicted"

Rice hasnt been convicted of anything. Yes, there is a nasty tape...but a video of an incident doesnt mean guilty until a judge says so...but quess what? He was removed because the NFL did not give a darn about the legal proceeding and made a move anyway. Peterson has not been convicted yet, but there are pictures that show some bruises...and guess what? The NFL made a move regardless of the fact that he hasn't been even tried, much less convicted.

Do you really believe that because Hardy was once convicted, but NC has a law saying his conviction can be erased and retried that anyone really cares about it?

SOmeone I know got busted for weed at their 18th birthday party, and convicted with poss. Yet they were able to take a first offenders program...upon completion of which the conviction was erased from their record. Now of course, that doesnt show up on their federal background check...yet it does not erase the fact that they wwere charged and convicted with a crime. Sure...noone knows about it, but they are a nobody, and average Joe.

Hardy does not have that luxury. Regardless of how things play out, at this point he has been convicted and EVERYONE knows about it. In the end after jury trial he may be found innocent, but again it still doesnt change the fact that he was convicted of a crime, but then later found innocent. In short, no matter what happens it is out there that he was involved in something.
