The Greg Hardy thread....for everything Hardy related

A few facts for you about this worthless topic of domestic abuse, a topic that just needs to be kept in the family, kept private:

  • In the United States, researchers estimate the 40 percent to 70 percent of female murder victims were killed by their husbands or boyfriends, frequently in the context of an ongoing abusive relationship.
  • According to the FBI, a woman is battered every 15 seconds.
  • 2 million to 4 million American women are abused each year.
  • White, Black, Hispanic & Non-Hispanic women have equivalent rates of violence committed by intimate partners.
  • Nearly 1/2 of men who abuse their female partners, also abuse their children.
  • Up to 50% of homeless women and children in this country are fleeing domestic violence.
  • Studies show that women face the greatest risk of assault when they leave or threaten to leave their partners, or report the abuse to authorities.

91.4% of all statistics are wrong.

Sad truth is that at least a few members here beat their wife/gf/bf/whatever, and at least one is beaten by their wife/gf/bf.

Saying whiteknights are coming out because they are against domestic violence and people saying that everyone is overreacting against Hardy are foolish.  Hardy overreacted and used poor judgement.  How much of an overreaction and how much poor judgement - we do not fully and will never fully know.

But, acting like something horrible and ridiculous did not happen - whether Hardy's fault at all or not - is ridiculous.  There is no defending anything that happened that night.  Some of you folks are just ridiculous to defend a guy you only know as a jersey and a number.

If Hardy is found innocent, will he be able to sue the NFL for how they have handled all of this and how they have damaged his reputation?

A good example of what would happen if it got to that point:  Chris Klewe.  He'll never play in the NFL again because he is blacklisted for at least being drama.

There is more than one Greg Hardy in this world.  He can be replaced.  He'd be foolish to think he'd have a case.

And what does the NFL/ESPN have to do with any of this?

And when did I call it a "worthless" topic?

You implied that domestic violence should be less important than ebola and ISIS; that it's taking the spotlight of these more important issues and that it wouldn't be such a big deal if the media hadn't blown it out of proportion.

I was merely providing you with statistics about the impact of domestic violence and abuse.

Great things always happen, when people use their ignorance and emotions, as a sword. Did I really see someone accuse most here to not care, because they are "males"? Did I see them accuse someone of saying this situation is "worthless"? Nice peak into the Psyche of "certain" types.

If you're talking about me ... how passively aggressive can you be ... I never accused the males here of not caring, and I never accused anyone of saying the situation is worthless.

Can someone tell me exactly if Hardy is currently deemed innocent by terms of "trail de novo"? Like is he considered innocent in the eyes of North Carolina despite being hit with the guilty verdict in the July trail? I have been saying it but I'm not sure if he is technically considered innocent or not.

Hardy’s case remains unresolved in the legal system.  Sure, he was found guilty in a bench trial, before a judge.  But that’s simply part of the convoluted criminal procedure in North Carolina, which gives him what the lawyers call a trial de novo before a jury.  It all happens from scratch, a fresh bite at the apple.  Innocent until proven guilty.

When people appeal their convictions, they can be released on appeal bond so that they are not immediately in jail. It is entirely possible to be out after a conviction, so no points for you there.

I'm not calling for GH's head ... never, ever have. Just stating FACTS that he was convicted. It's not as if it "never happened." It did happen. The appeal is not automatic; if he had not appealed, his conviction stands ... A jury trial outcome of not guilty would negate that conviction. I understand that.

Those who give a sh!t about domestic abuse and violence did so before the GH or Ray Rice situation, and will continue to do so. The poster ... and simple minded ninnies like him and you ... fail to understand that the fact that we care about it isn't because of some media frenzy, or because of some rich athlete simply "removing his coked out ..... girlfriend" from his apartment. Even such a woman doesn't deserve to be abused. And simply because she was "hurt enough" or "knocked out," like RR's fiance/now wife doesn't mean she wasn't a victim. That notion is absolutely ridiculous. Like saying a rape victim who chooses to try to stay alive by not fighting wasn't raped because she didn't fight back, she didn't allow herself to be beaten to "prove" it was rape.

I know I'm one of only a few women here, so I understand that the perspective isn't shared by the majority here ... and trust me, I am NOT saying that "all" the men here don't understand the issue of domestic abuse because they are men ... some just don't get it.

Sooo....they just don't get it or share your perspective, because they are men? Nope, no stereotyping here.

Seems cut and dry to me.

Passive aggressive, yes. I do not address some posters (one actually) directly, because it has been my personal experience, that when a certain poster disagrees with what is said, they have people/mods that they go to, who do their bidding.

I've only ever gone to people/mods once ... a very long time ago. For a very specific reason. No issues with you at all.

You do note, in the passage you highlighted, where I clearly said I wasn't lumping all men there ... my apologies if it wasn't clear enough. You may concede that the majority of folks on the board who are supporting GH outwardly (and calling the "victim" names and placing the blame on her) are men. Maybe you won't, but I believe I'm correct. Obviously, I haven't done any kind of scientific poll, and don't plan to.
