That would be idiotic. If he plead guilty now, and got accused again he would be suspended indefinitely. However, if he wins this case he doesn't have a first strike.

Granted, if the league updates it's policy on DV again all bets are off.

My quotes were based purely off what would be best in the short term for the team by getting him on the field this season and letting this entire situation die down.

Biggest mistake we made was sitting greg out last week. Makes us look guilty.

 

The best thing we could have done as an Org was to play him and then EXPLAIN NC's legal process to the media as to justify our means.

 

Something like this;

 

"Greg is a Carolina Panther who has been through some extenuating circumstances and we are allowing him to explain his innocence in the court of law. We understand the NC legal system is different than most states and we ask that the media give Greg his opportunity to prove he is only guilty of poor judgment. We understand that many will see that he was convicted of misdemeanor charges, however we respectfully ask you to understand this was a preliminary bench trial involving testimony that requires it go to a jury trial. This is the NC legal process, and we intend to allow Greg his right to prove his innocence." 

 

All we did was make Greg look guilty and us ignorant. We caved to public "ignorant/un-informed" opinion.

 

Ray Rice hits his woman 1 time and knocks her out cold....Hard supposedly "beat the crap" out of his crazy as coked out GF and she walks away without anything as bad as a black eye...

Jesus the media is ripping up the Panthers and Richardson this morning. If good PR is the Panther's concern, there is NOTHING they can do to get the media to speak positively of them. 

 

Richardson has shown to be a stubborn owner in the past in regards to his fan base. I'd like to see him stick to what he think is right in this situation then bowing down to the media.  Either way it's a lose lose.

mike and mike just went in on us and bigcat and how embarrassing it is how we've handled this and all that jazz. they even used statements rivera made days ago and compared it to the vikings statement early this morning. and said we were copying the vikings. how they still have a show is beyond me

Agreed. No reason to kowtow to media now... sitting him out last week after playing him week 1 was idiotic.

Mike and Mike is generally a show I like to listen to because it offers multiple persepctives from different guests but they are killing us right now in venomous fashion. They just called JR out for crying in his speech and laughed at him, basically saying he is a fake and waits to make decisions based on public reaction. Problem is, ESPN is the one that started the crap that led to Hardy's deactivation and JR's indecision. The day the Rice video came out, Schefter tried to shift the focus to Hardy, pointing out that he was found guilty, cited the transcripts (which haven't been released yet, lol), and that we were paying him 13 million.

They just said that at least York and the Niners have at least made a decision and stuck with it and in contrast, JR has been indecisive and a joke of an owner for making his decision based off of the public reaction to each event. I agree, it was best to make a decision and stick with it. BUT, they were the ones that turned the heat up on our franchise, and conveniently swept Goodell's intentional failings in the Rice case under the rug rather quickly.

At least your posts are unbiased.  Nah, but I agree that the media has too much control in this country--and they know it.  The loudest, usually the only, voice we hear, and they have become sensationalizing ratings chasers.  Scary.  Heck, they have the power to determine who wins elections. 

 

This is not to say that Rice, Hardy, and Peterson do not need to be disciplined because they hurt the company they work for--public personalities have to be more careful than someone whose mistakes might not be interesting to the common man.

 

I think we are confusing legal rights and behavior that tarnishes the shield. Even if these players are found innocent in court, they walked a fine line and stepped into gray areas.  Peterson called it discipline, but it was abuse.  Gray area?  Maybe, but why hit your kids to begin with?   In the case of Hardy, he was dating/partying with a coke head and it backfired.  He owned and displayed (in his apt) assault weapons.  This much we know.  He may have the right to own them, but he is also responsible for the PR if their existence ever reaches the media. Hardy chose the coke-head girlfriend and bought the assault weapons.  His choices.  The NFL is a business and Hardy is an employee.
