A Jonathon Stewart Stat...

same goes for dwill. They get hit behind the los, sometimes right when the ball is handed to them, then get poo for making it back to the los by breaking 2 tackles, just bc we didn't gain any yards on the play. Stew is pretty good when healthy, but both he and dwill are not as good as their contracts suggest.

@PFF: #Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart has forced 17 missed tackles this year (T1st with DeMarco Murray). On just 28 total touches

Although his yards may not be up there, he's literally doing as much as he can with what he's presented with. The line has not done a good job with opening lanes for him. His TD run was a thing of beauty, I've loved watching a healthy Stewart play so far this year.

The operative word?  Healthy.  I hope he stays that this year because he is a beast when he is healthy.

Im sure Mr. Scot will agree but every Panther's team we've ever fielded it always seems that the offensive line's run blocking doesn't really start coming together and opening up major holes until around mid season. It's always been very rough the first half of the year for our running backs.

I think that's a by-product of the fact that we hardly ever retain the same lineup from one year to the next.

Gettleman wants to craft a good young crew that'll stay together long term and thus maintain solid chemistry.

If he can make that work, we might see some changes on that front.

Beast mode?

@PFF: Murray and Stewart are on pace for 136 broken tackles over the season. 50 more than Lynch managed last year.

This is like saying someone is on pace for 162 home runs in a baseball season when hitting a home run in his first 2 games. That's why I didn't bother posting this one initially but since you referenced Lynch I figured why not.

I'm kind of disappointed that Tolbert has never developed his run blocking skills as a fullback.  Dude could bowl over any cat with the ball in his hands, and yet can't deliver a light blow with free hands.  D-Will and Stew would be awesome if they had a FB blocking for them.  Giving them that extra punch they need to build up speed while approaching the line.
