PFT: NFL may suspend Hardy

Did Ben file a lawsuit against the NFL or the Steelers?

Fwiw, they could probably ban Hardy for hanging out with coked up girls and having a pile of guns laying on his bed as a code of conduct violation. But if he is banned for the domestic violence, and then is found not guilty, he might have legit grounds for a lawsuit.

If he did, I never heard about it, which was kind of my point. A victory for Ben doing that would have been big news. I'm thinking he took it and wanted it in the rear view mirror.

#Panthers officials say they haven't heard from the league regarding discipline of Hardy; team continuing its own investigation.

-Person

I think they are feeding Person a large pile of BS. There is no way they aren't in communication with the league on a daily basis due to the nationwide attention.

Like I said in the Ray Rice thread, these are crazy times where the media basically overrides any type of due process. ESPN, TMZ, CNN basically create, dictate, influence opinions as well as policies whether it is sports, politics or economics

I'm not excusing domestic violence, but these people are not angels .... fugg, I know I am not. They'll get their day in court and the NFL's ruling should be proportional with the legal system. We need to let the legal system work. Our personal moral judgement of others should not turn into witch-hunt every time the media decides that this is the latest outrage.  I hope Hardy goes after these fuggers if he is not found guilty.

Hate to be dramatic, but this is the beginning of the end when a free society turns into a Roman mob

In fairness, due process is a legal term, and he is getting due process in the courts.  But the NFL is a private entity and can punish how it sees fit (in accordance of course with its existing rules and the collective bargaining agreement).

The NFLPA might have something to say about that. You want a strike because punishing people before a court determines guilt is how you get a strike.

When a private entity imposes discipline in an unfair/uneven manner, then it opens itself up to lawsuits. When you have owners like Irsay get arrested and discipline isn't imposed until things are resolved legally, the NFL should not hold players to a higher standard than it's owners. Can you imagine the NFL suspending Irsay (with pay) from coming to work until his case is resolved? It didn't happen so how can they take any action against a player before the court case is resolved? Irsay was charged with 2 misdemeanors .....just like Hardy.

I don't mind the media and their opinions (This is America- I suit up every day so you can have an opinion) as long as they would cover (or even highlight) the facts.

So far, I have yet to hear anyone in the media report the "known" facts of Hardy's case, and that's what disturbs me.

Don't pull a rabbit out of your ass when all you are trying to do is garner ratings.

I am on Hardy's side until he is convicted by a jury of his peers and not during a preliminary bench trial run by a woman judge who has a track record.

That's all I will say.

If Hardy had done what Ray Rice did, then I would want him cut and we move on. But is seems only a few folks even understand the NC law system.

sad...

So Hardy called 911 first about the crazy girlfriend. Then a neighbor call saying she hears a disturbance. No marks on the girl. A judge finds him guilty based on just the neighbors phone call but yet the neighbor didn't witness anything. This is just fugged up. All I hear is he was found guilty by the media outlets....but he is guilty of what? He is getting screwed by the NC legal system and the media.

I agree with due process, but I don't think the NFL is objectively acting on its own. The media and the modern day mob is twisting its arms...

If the NFL doesn't have enough of a spine to face the media and follow the rules they agreed to in the CBA..... And follow the precedent it set with disciplining owners of NFL teams that violate law, then it will lead to it's demise as the greatest sport in the country. If the NFL wants to impose immediate discipline without letting the legal process coming to a conclusion, then change the CBA and enforce it equally across the board. Changing the disciplinary procedures midstream because the media suddenly doesn't like it is fugged up no matter how you slice it.

Because Gettleman can see into the future and know Hardy would have an incident weeks after they tagged him.  Get real.  Hardy has always been different, but it's not like this guy had previously troubles off the field with the Panthers.

Who knows what the NFL will do, but it'll probably be something stupid.  I in no way shape or form support Ray Rice etc etc, but the NFL has gone from giving him a 2 game suspension after they had at the very least seen the video of him dragging him from the elevator.  Then they change it to 6 games, but decide to resuspend Rice indefinitely, "after" seeing the other video.  How do you change the rule to 6 games, and then days later suspend someone indefinitely?  The NFL is going to make up their rules as they go along, to appease the media.

It was stupid from the beginning, before this all even happened. Who spends 13 mil on a player when we could get similar production for half that and still have some left over to upgrade at OT.

I know, hindsight and all. But still, I didn't like tagging Hardy from the start. This just made it worse.

well it isn't like he tagged Hardy after the incident.  please tell us other moves that will be bad because of future unknown incidents, so we dont waste time and money.

I'll just copy/paste what I said to the other condescending guy.
