PFT: NFL may suspend Hardy

For the people who are saying its Hardy's faulty my question is this. How many of you or your friends have ever had a crazy ex? The only difference is we don't make millions and our jobs don't punish us for mistakes like the NFL.

There are probably more than a few here whom have had crazy ex's.

But the difference is...

1. Most if not all here do not have (a) the money for high powered attorneys to fight what is basically a rather small charge/conviction. (  b  )a labor union like the players union (this is not some small industry union) to fight so that we not only don't lose our job, but also continue to get paid, (  c  ) have careers where a conviction such as this would be overlooked on future employment opportunities.

Many folks get denied jobs for something as minor as having bad credit. A conviction, or even just a hint of something like domestic violence/battery/assault etc would limit many folks to construction work, or food service/retail.

Is it Hardy's fault? Well, I dont think I would go as far as to say he has "fault..but yeah..he does have a share of the responsibility for this.

My opinion: You let him play! He has not been convicted. What I remember was hardy had a good defense vs that chick and it was a" he said she said" case but the judge charged him any ways? Am I right? I would understand if there's video or something. Play him and wait for the verdict!

For those of you claiming he should sue for slander, defamation of character, etc., my understanding is it's almost impossible for famous people to win cases of that type. I seem to remember reading there are different standards and thresholds for people in the public eye.

I know we have at least a couple of lawyers on here. Can one of you comment on this?

not sure about the law in NC, but it's my understanding that its hard to prove that a person was hurt financially.  If he is suspended without pay it will not be so hard to prove.

Hardy needs to speak the hell up. Because he is not talking, people are abandoning him. He must reassure those who still want him to play here.

I know he has a poor choice of words, but gd, pay someone to write you a f statement.

The media has already painted Hardy as the devil.   Anything he says will be twisted and used for a ratings grab.

I think it was "Stink" on ESPN said that if a player is found guilty crime or admits guilt to the team, they should be suspended without pay- this would force owners to decide if character is worth investing in.

I think Rivera is a ethical leader and would have no problem investing in high character players.

I'm just done with Hardy...he needs to fix it or just sit down, the team is having a great start this year and doesn't need this BS...this is last time posting about this crap. Bring on the Steelers!!

His charge is a misdemeanor. People get parking tickets and still get good jobs.

Slowly it seems that the witch-hunt is dying off and now it's just the media clamoring for stories.  Last week it was 90/10 on suspending him, this week it's more 50/50 of letting it play out.  The only ones kicking and screaming about this right now is a handful of news organizations trying to get your attention.

Just heard on ESPN radio that they are running a 2 hour special tonight on Hardy and either RR or AP (didn't hear and process the name, my ears perked when I heard Hardy's name)  and the problems in the NFL.

More pressure, you know they will have it on repeat for the rest of the week. I'm getting so feed up with how the media handles everything. They blow everything up, the Monday the RR video was released they acted like a bunch of children hyped up on candy.

ESPN is reaching now ... everyone is tired of the story, so now they are trying to get the ratings back.

If I had to guess, I think the NFLPA will intervene if he is suspended without pay. They'll argue that nothing has changed with the facts of the case or Hardy's legal status, so why suspend him now instead of months ago? And I think they have a case honestly.

Depends on what the CBA says. I thought there was something in there about double jeopardy that would have affected Ray Rice's resuspension but apparently not. In which case I don't think the NFLPA would have much to stand on as far as Hardy. Maybe arbitration.

Rothlesberger was suspended and was not even officially charged.

Players are suspended all the time without being found guilty in a court of law yet.

The NFL does not have to follow legal jurisprudence.

I think they should wait until the legal systems plays itself out....just showing there is a prescendence for suspensions without and/or prior to legal convictions.

As for a lawsuit.....the fact that there was a bench trial where a judge found him guilty is likely enough evidence for Goodell to go ahead with a suspension.....(even though it now is wiped out because Hardy is requesting a jury trial)
