Week 3 Power Rankings

#4 in NFL: Panthers

Cam Newton is back and the plays he can make with his feet are critical. The defense looked great with four sacks in Week 2 without Greg Hardy.

ex-NFL coach and exec Kirwan has Panthers #2 in NFC, only behind Seahawks

That's better than what I read this morning.

16. Carolina Panthers: Despite starting two quarterbacks through the first two weeks of the season, the Carolina Panthers have still managed two victories and are now starting to gain an elite form. If Cam Newton can continue to recover from his rib injuries without any setbacks, Carolina will be dangerous in the wide-open NFC South.

Panthers are 13-2 over last 15 games, 13-1 regular season, and this guy thinks we are "now starting to gain an elite form"? lol

CAROLINA PANTHERS (2-0) HIGH: 4 / LOW: 15 Despite deactivating DE Greg Hardy, the Panthers' front seven once again proved too dominant, controlling the line of scrimmage throughout against the Lions. In his regular-season debut, Cam Newton showed no signs of rust while delivering a consistent performance. The narrative that Newton lacks reliable weapons seems foolish as Greg Olsen turned four of his six catches into first downs.

"The narrative that Newton lacks reliable weapons (now) seems foolish"

yep, not sure why so many big media yahoos bought into that, especially since there were several high profile media guys calling them foolish for thinking that in the first place

General consensus was we had been "exposed".

Probably hear the same thing first time we lose a game this year (especially if we lose badly).

Since Rivera became coach, the Panthers seem to get thoroughly blown out twice a season.  I'm expecting the same again this year, and my picks are @ Bengals and @ Saints.

2011: Titans, @ Saints

2012: Giants, Broncos

2013: Cardinals, @ Saints

2014: ?

Bengals may be a little high, but man I dread playing them.

I don't. I think we'll crush them! If we can hold Calvin Johnson to under 100 yds and no TDs I do not fear AJ Green will do any better.

Furthermore, the only games I'm even concerned about are the Packers, Seahawks, and Eagles. We will need to win those games to win a tiebreaker (if one exists) for home field throughout the playoffs. Those are must wins imo

Hope you're wrong, there :(

NFL.com

4. Panthers

Well. Those who thought Carolina doesn't have what it takes to compete for a Super Bowl should consider that the Panthers' defense has forced six turnovers, given up 21 points and allowed opposing quarterbacks to gain a little more than 5 yards per attempt through two games. That is a certifiably championship-caliber unit, folks.

------------

The only NFC team above us are the Eagles. Which I think we can beat easily.
