Harper 65 snaps, Godfrey 7

I'm bothered with how few snaps Star got.

There's a difference between "conserving" guys and taking your best talent off the field and we did the latter.

It's noticeable when he isnt out there.

Would assume it had something to do with it be the pass happy Lions. We have better pass rushing DTs. Star is a beast against the run

The guy must walk on water at practice.  Rivera loves him and so did Fox.  Both of those guys know defense.  I don't get it.  I've never seen it on Sundays, so it must be happening on the practice field.

Godfrey is not a spectacular player, but I have a good feeling he knows his job on any given play.

That doesn't make him good by any means, but coaches are more likely to let you out on field if you aren't a guy who misses assignments or busts coverage.  Especially as a safety.

That is interesting.  Cole is a very good player but I can't see a reason to definitively give him more snaps than Star.

Were we running a heavy dose of both KK and Dwan?

I'd like to see that snap breakdown.

harper still sucks in coverage.....godfrey's better in coverage............lol don't act like calvin didn't save his ass by dropping a td

Honestly, a lot of safeties suck in coverage.

A fair number of coaches prefer "intimidator" safeties who'll jack a receiver up so that they think hard about whether they wanna come their way again.

I know that was what John Fox preferred in his time here.

truth, let me state that harper has surprised me so far and played solid our first two games

i just don't see a big improvement in the secondary when he's in compared to godfrey

Coverage is Godfrey's weakness too.

I think the reason Rivera likes Harper is he's experienced and knowledgeable.  And honestly, intelligence is an underrated trait for a safety.  I'll take a safety who's a little less athletic if he doesn't make many mistakes.

That's me, though.

No he isn't he is just as bad if not worse in coverage than Harper is.

Neither one of them are particularly great in coverage but Harper isn't known for taking stupid angles and getting juked to smithereens like Godrey is.

Both Kawann and Dwan got more snaps than Star. As CRA said, the Lions pass heavy offense was likely the reason behind that, but I think the defense as a whole benefits with Star collapsing the interior line.

OT: But I found it interesting that Blackburn "starts" but has played a total of 3 defensive snaps this season. Obviously Bene takes most of the snaps from the Blackburn/Klein duo, but even Klein has played much more despite being the "backup."

Maybe this is common, but I found it interesting.
