Who will be our DC next season?

I'm quite familiar with his resume.

No doubt he has a great deal of input into draft picks and FA signings and gives broad advice concerning our D. The game plans though are McDermott's and Shula's along with their respective staffs. That's their job and that's what they do. A HC is too busy with other things to be intimately involved with all aspects of the team.

If you like our record and the way we play you should at least be willing to give all our staff credit for the excellent job they are doing.

I am giving then credit, but this is Rivera's team. He's the genius behind the success.

See Bill Bilichick: Weis, Mangini, Crennel, McDaniels.

It's pretty much the same thing here with Rivera.

Our D was not even comparable under Chud vs Shula.

We did not have Luke and Star. Not to mention the suck a tude at S and CB those years.

And our offenses weren't comparable either......one plays into having elite D talent. Chud was just showing off. Shula is consistent.....and our O is

Chud's O was in the bottom half of the league in TOP both years. Shula was top 5 last year.

Well he was scrutinized all to hell in Philly. He isn't really vocal publicly. He resurrected his career here with the help of Rivera. He learned behind Jim Johnson who never took on a HC job. He has a nice thing going on here.

To be fair EVERY DC since Jim Johnson has been scrutinized to hell in Philly.

Reality is none of them were as good as Jim Johnson, but they haven't exactly been blessed with talent on that side of the ball since then.

We are very fortunate that we have Rivera and McDermott.  Both learned from 2 of the greatest defensive minds in NFL history.

One of the most efficient offenses+ great defense + Rivera not being a bonehead is the reason.

But Shula's efficient O definitely has it's role. People like to blur the line of what efficient and ball control O is....

This board loved Chud overall while he was here....hates Shula. One had Sportscenter plays, one didn't. One helped us win, one would call 3 straight passes from the 2. Give me Shula

Year 1: Yes.  He, Cam, two TE sets and the read-option turned the most pathetic offense witnessed in the modern NFL to an explosive set of highlights.  Us Panther fans had never seen such a heavy dosage of those 4 elements, and that level of a turnaround made everyone excited.

Year 2: Us along with the rest of the NFL saw that Chud had nothing but a bag of tricks and an inability to make adjustments.  I remember the moment I wanted him gone.  The Denver blowout.  Over and over he was asking Olsen to block Von Miller without help on running plays.  Most offensive tackles get destroyed by Von.  Olsen is a solid blocking tight end, but that is a ridiculous task to put him on.  He never adjusted, he just kept letting Von have his way with poor Greg.

Lol Dont act like you know. You speculate like everyone else.

What Do you think rivera does? how can you say he isnt intimatly involved with the gameplan in all three phases? What other is there to do that is so time consuming to take away from doing that with his coordinators? lol camon man

If speculating is believing what comes out of the players' and Rivera's mouth, then ok, I guess I'm speculating.

You choose not to believe what the organization says, fine. It just seems strange that players (especially) would lie about Rivera's involvement when they time and again report that RR sticks his head in the meetings from time to time, but that it's McDermott's D.

If we actually have major success in the Post Season which generally leads to coordinators getting HC jobs I don'y give a fug. Give me the Super Bowl appearance, then I'll worry about it.

Plus McDermott might not be able to interview for HC jobs until late in the process if we play deep into January.

I have a couple of thoughts on this subject.

First. I do expect McD to get an interview or two after this year. But, with the way the league is Offensively, I just don't see him getting the gig. Maybe when a team that really wants a Defense he may get a shot. I just don't know when that may be.

Second. He has a sweet gig right now. It just may take the perfect storm of events to even get him to consider taking a HC job. Some guys just don't want that headache.

Personally, I don't want him going anywhere. He makes Rivera's job so much easier.

Huh?

Our D is better now (more offensive possessions) AND one could argue our O is better now (experienced Cam, better WR's as a whole, etc).

That means our O should be doing better.

You really gonna try and pimp TOP? There is a reason why no one mentions TOP when ranking or evaluating offense. It is all about PPG just like defense is all about points allowed.

Pretty much EVERY coordinator wants to be a HC (a few exceptions but they are the outliners)..

That is until they become a HC and start losing and feeling the heat. Then its I wanna go back to m cush OC/DC job.

That is why it is best to get an elite coordinator when he fails at being a HC.

Ya wanna talk nightmare?

How about McDermott gets a head coaching job and takes Steve Wilks with him?

(or maybe Eric Washington, or both) :(
