Peter King busted

Ok, I caved and clicked the link for the mmqb article. I was struck by:

"The only reason Greg Hardy hadn’t been suspended before coach Ron Rivera had the common sense (or the direction from embarrassed Panthers owner Jerry Richardson) is because—as Jon Wertheim and Emily Kaplan of SI and The MMQB wrote this weekend—there wasn’t a video, the way there was with Ray Rice. But read the trial testimony, and pore over the guilty verdict, and you’ll understand why so many people are outraged that Hardy played in Week 1, or will play at all for Carolina this season."

Read the trial testimony?

What trial testimony?

who is outraged? ive heard almost nothing but Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson in the national outlets. ive only heard Hardy's name dropped once, and it was actually fairly favorable mentioning the incomplete legal process.

even in the sports media. everyone seems to be mostly consumed with the Rice and Peterson. people always bring up Hardy as an "oh yea and that dude in Carolina... whats his name?"

they all know his legal process isnt over. they are just doing the same damn thing they always do: look for something that will stir up a fake story so they can get web hits and tv viewers

Dude where do you get your news from cause I need to get in on that. All the stuff I hear is sensationalist ratings driven drivel.

Yes, but the transcript has to be transcribed by the court reporter from legal shorthand to a longhand document. And I believe it has to be verified by a second party aside from the reporter.

It's the scopist's job to do that however a Certified Shorthand Reporter (spelling it out since my acronym was autochanged) generally do not have a scopist all the time.

Either Florio has it right or peter does. Either way put the heat on the self righteous media assholes for a change

i'd lean toward Florio being right since he is actually a lawyer. he's on Mac Attack every wednesday and even he says that Hardy's case is still pending and the Panthers should lean toward letting the process play out

According to Florio link there are no transcripts made in a bench trial in NC. Apparently Hardy's lawyers paid for one but have yet to produce or share it.

So what did Pete King examine other than a mirror shot of his fat ass?

I think that Florio is right. While it is not required, I can see why Hardy's lawyers asked for a court reporter to be present.

Transcripts are generally produced based on the following factors:

1) Status/Delivery - Expedite, Rush, Routine? What turn around time did the attorneys give the court reporter?

2) Court Reporter - Who is the court reporter? Some people, quite frankly, are not good at their jobs. Even if a request was for an expedite and the reporter was given 3 days to turn it in, you'll be surprised that some will take their sweet time. However, given the matter of the case and who is involved, i'm certain that the court reporter worked on this one pretty quickly.

3) The court reporter owns the transcripts. If opposing counsel wants a copy, they would have to order a copy through the court reporting agency.
