Speed at Wide Receiver

Denarius Moore is being grossly misused in the Raiders' offense. He is a vertical receiver, and they aren't going vertical. Here, he would fit perfectly. Plus he's an adept returner as well.

We need to take a chance if the Raiders are willing, and see what we can come up with.

Were you the guy who made a thread about him last year?

I am hoping that wide receiver coach Ricky Proehl can work with the current practice squard wide receiver, 23 yr old speedy (4:36)  6'4"  Stephen Hill and help him be more consistent in his pass catching. If this actually pans out like I hope,we would have a deep threat with the needed  speed in addition to very good height..

Look up the championship teams and tell me if they had a speed receiver who actually mattered. Speed at receiver is for teams who want to beat up on scrub defenses.

Seahawks have Harvin. Ravens have Torey Smith and Jacoby Jones. Giants had Victor Cruz and you could argue Hakeem Nicks. Packers had Jennings and Nelson. Saints Henderson and Meachem. Steelers Santonio Holmes. Should I continue?

If these are speed receivers by your definition, then we have Cotchery and Avant. You do realize you listed receivers with 4.5 and 4.6 40s. I would not call that a speed receiver.

Harvin and Henderson had no impact on offense against good playoff defenses. Meachem played third fiddle to Shockey and Colston. Santonio Holmes played third fiddle to Hines Ward and Heath Miller. Santonio was mostly forgettable in playoff/big games, but when you face the 28th ranked defense in the Super Bowl to get that big game it goes to support my argument.

I will take the Jerry Rice, Michael Irvin, Lynn Swann, John Stallworth, Wes Welker, Deion Branch, Troy Brown, Hines Ward, Andre Reed, Anquan Boldin, Larry Fitzgerald, Antonio Freeman, or Rod Smith (all 4.5 to 4.7 40 times) over any speed receiver you could list.

Muhsin Muhammad has the longest reception in Super Bowl history while racking up 140 yards in the game. It wan't the speed of Steve Smith that kept up with the Patriots defense.

Speed does not beat the best defenses in the NFL. Speed is overrated at the receiver position.
