Not only could he not get a jury trial up front, but the judge in his bench trial might not have been impartial. Judge Becky Thorne Tin heard this case and she is also the Co-Chair of Harvard's Battered Women's Advocacy Project. Seems to at least be a conflict of interest that would have warranted her letting someone else judge.
