Smitty may be even more pissed than we thought (Panthers related)

I don't get why you would suddenly stop liking a player when all that has changed is his jersey color.

There's a difference between liking someone and hoping he does well against your team. This forum isn't called the StevesmithHuddle and the majority of us aren't here talking about Smith's next game against the Steelers.

We play the Lions on Sunday.

I am pulling for him to do well in every game except against Carolina.

You know, like an actual fan of a franchise would do.

Players are part of the franchise. That's why we have a "franchise tag" that is applied to players, and we ask if we have a "Franchise QB."

To say you're a fan of the Panthers franchise is to say you're a Steve Smith fan, or Peppers, or Mills, et al. because what they contributed to our team's history is what made franchise what it is.

Otherwise, to say you're a fan of the franchise just means your a fan of our color scheme, owner and Sir Purr.

It's possible to root for smithers to do well AND a panthers win. People did the same for Delhomme. The TRUFAN stuff doesn't hurt my feelings. There's a lot of dumb behavior that people justify with that. Just look at the Greg Hardy threads.

I like Smith. My random encounter with him he was perfectly nice and funny. But if he wasn't ever a Panther you would hate him. There is a lot to be turned off by once you get past the "that's my guy" thing.

People quickly hate every other player that has gone on to other teams. People even hated Moose when he went to Chicago after being cut.

I'm as much of a die hard Panthers fan as anyone here.

That said, as fans, we don't have to agree with how our franchise handles every situation. That is also part of being a fan. Blind allegiance is a dangerous thing in every aspect of life.

We can disagree with the franchise's move and move on, but don't fault me or others because we are rooting for the guy to stick it to the people who we (and he, apparently) feel wronged him so.

I absolutely want the Panthers to win and stomp the Ravens, but I absolutely want Smitty to get his on that day, too. However, Smitty doesn't play OL, RB, or QB, so his success will likely be out of his hands when our front seven dominate them.
