Smitty may be even more pissed than we thought (Panthers related)

Or I'm just not going to argue with someone who clearly knows more about anything Panther related than anyone including the employees of the organization.

Paying a 36 & 37 year old 5'9 WR with diminishing speed, poor hands, & a bad knee injury $25 million over 2 years would've been the biggest contract fail in team history.

Y'all are letting your fandom of a guy turn you into complete morons.

Well that would have been bad had it actually been what you're suggesting.  Seems to be a credibility gap between reality and fantasy.

Edit: Must be that damned new math.

Feel free to quote any of these speculative posts. Everything I've said is based on comments Rivera and DG made publicly.

Come on, man.  Smitty needed a true play maker at WR2 during his prime years which basically began once Moose went to the place where receivers die.  Sure Moose returned, but he had lost a step.  If we had made it our mission to get that play maker on the other side of Smitty when Smitty was still putting up those thousand yard seasons, then Smitty's talent could have been used more effectively, and the passing game wouldn't have been the broken-winged bird that it was for so many years (and arguably continues to be to this day).  We are not going to get that Lombardi with a WR1 and a bunch of WR3s and WR4s.  I don't give a poo how good our Tight End is.  We will always meet a superior force in the playoffs that is more well-rounded.  We have to get that other play maker on the field to take the pressure off Benjamin, much like we should have done with Smitty for several years---hell, most of his years here.

Ok....just got the impression you were referring to under utilizing him for some reason when I thought we leaned on him heavily.  Thanks for clarifying.

I happen to think we're going to draft a WR high in the draft again next year.  That way we have legitimate play makers on the outside who also aren't soaking up all of our cap space.

Playoffs would be great this year.  Next year I think will be out "true" Superbowl run.

And you call yourself a fan? The greatest Panther of all time to this point blatantly calls out Gettleman and verifies the speculation that circulated these boards for months after his release and your response is "whatevs". I hate Gettleman now more than ever.

Edit: if he felt this way then and still felt that upset on Sunday, just think about how that locker room felt all offseason. As players, they have no choice but to move on with who they've got, but I guarantee you that Players from our locker room are texting him all kinds of props for doing what they can't do. Telling off Dave Gettleman.

you hate our incredibly talented general manager and love a wide receiver that plays for the baltimore ravens

and you call yourself a fan?

Guys, let's be real here....this is what we loved about Smitty when he was here. He played pissed off and it made him one of the best receivers in the game in his prime. I get it...he's NOT HERE anymore...and it is always PANTHERS ABOVE ALL. But don't start acting like everyone here has always hated the guy because he was cut and signed with another team.

We didn't hate in the 2OT game vs. the Rams

We didn't hate him when he won the receiving Triple Crown

We didn't hate him when he punked Fred Smoot, DeAngelo Hall, Janoris Jenkins, etc.

We didn't hate him during the year of awesome TD dances

We didn't hate him during ICE UP SON!, "Rules and Regulations of the Game", etc.

Remember those times and don't forget he went out there and laid it on the line for this team every game. At this point in time, he's the best Panther to ever suit up for us and he embodies what a Panther should be.

He was a great player for us, but he fugged us over.  He forced his release by bitching on the radio so he could collect his back end money from us. Plus his signing bonus and seasonal salary from the Ravens and the dead money they'll pay him when they cut him before his contract runs out.

Smitty went from making 4 million this year with us to about 10 mill with the Ravens including what we had to pay him.

And he's bitching about it.

Plus he's a jerk.
