Smitty may be even more pissed than we thought (Panthers related)

Wrong.

Pick two:

keep Steve Smith

keep Greg Hardy

extend Cam Newton

holy poo LMFAO this arugment no no hun, you need to do some real math

We had more money than anyone on here will every admit this offseason, and we still have some to work with at this moment. Greg hardy being franchised was dumb, especially not understanding how our OL or WR corps would look like, but we still had enough money for Smith & Cam. Hardy probably won't be here next year, if he is it'll be a contract that wouldn't have conflicted much with Smith's current one, the one we're paying dead money to. Besides it was Gettleman's fault for not seeing Hardy's potentional and signing him before last season got underway, like many in the fanbase, and some in the media suggested. Such a great GM, he even managed to sign a lot of guys off the street last year to only single year deals, making this offseason much harder than it needed to be, but he learned his lesson this year and has finally started doing multi-year deals.

Just go over all the money on off season signings we've used this past off season.

tl:dr you're using a tired ass argument that doesn't hold water when you actually look at the numbers, but none of you dipshits will do that. you'll just grab your gettleman bible and read page after page or bullshit.

Yes, Steve is the #2 option behind Torrey Smith. What's your point? Benjamin is the #2 option behind Olsen.

Besides, Smith is a veteran who was playing with a Super Bowl MVP QB (who threw the ball 62, yes SIXTY-TWO, times).

Benjamin was making his NFL debut, on the road, against a good defense, with a back up QB.

I specifically made my point which is that if you're going to compare stats, compare stats with people at the same position.

Benjamin with T. Smith

Cotchery with Smitty.

I also said that the two sets of stats didn't have to be mutually exclusive.  Both Smitty and Benjamin playing together would probably produce more than Cotchery and Benjamin. This doesn't have to be true, but we'll get a clearer picture by the end of the season.

And, to your point about Benjamin being the number two: we are not talking Tight Ends.  But, if you must, then I could easily say that Dennis Pitta is the number 1 option for Flacco. I guess that would make Smitty the number 3 option...but all that's beside the point.

Stop trying to muddy the point.  Benjamin and Smitty playing as Panthers weren't mutually exclusive, and it would have been nice (if not beneficial) to see them playing together.

lol were paying smith to play in bal.....cam hasn't been extended and most likey won't until the end of the season..........hardy was tagged before smith was released.........so yeah

we could have kept him, olsen and got kb.........if smith truly was asked to take a pay cut and refused then this situation would make a whole lot of sense but that may not be the case

Yeah... There's no way he doesn't get ejected when we play the Ravens.

Thought he would control himself better than that but. Oh well. Wonder who he fights or tries to fight though, Harper? Benwikere? It'd definitely be a mistake to tango with Kuechly, TD, or anyone from the DLine.

Still got love for ya though Smitty

just think if we do pull out a winning season it'll be on the backs of mostly Hurney era picks, and he'll get zero credit why dumpster diving dave will get his dick double time jerked for making easy first round picks and signing randoms.

Don't get me wrong, we will be very good this year. That doesn't negate the idea of how much better we'd have been with Smitty still on our roster. That man stayed with this organization through some really shitty years as the only formidable wide out, without any help. This organization owed it to Smitty to let him finish his career here. Call it what you want to, and call me a homer too, I really don't care.

Smitty in the slot would make Wes Welker look like AE. That's once he decided to move to the slot btw. You think I'm wrong? Put Welker on the outside and see how many CBs he could beat. Go ahead and come up with a number, I'll be right here waiting.

Unless you're Dave or Steve, I recommend you don't make statements you can't prove. You don't know that Steve wasn't asked to take a pay cut. He openly said he wouldn't take a pay cut on the radio. Maybe he told Dave the same thing and Dave called his bluff.

I seriously doubt Steve just woke up one morning and saw on ESPN he was axed. He most likely knew.

Whatever. Your weak attempt at revisionist history is not going to change the few interviews that Smitty had (including the one down at Clemson's Pro Day and the one with Steve Reed).  I guess you're calling Smitty a liar about finding about all the news in public.  I guess you're discounting the resulting firestorm as a result of the PR miscues.

Whatever.  You believe what you want to believe if that makes you feel better.

the real question is what's yours?

this isn't a kb vs smith debate, the point is we could have had all 3 on this team.

Or....we cut ties with an ornery old vet who (from what we can gather on the outside) is causing rifts in team chemistry while padding stats to end his career and hand the keys to the future of this franchise. Cam, Luke, Star, KB, Smitty...who is the odd man out?

Can definitely see him and Harper getting into it.  That's gonna be weird.

And for all the talk about how we're so much better off without Smitty (which is basically just bullshit), you better hope that we don't waste KB's prime years like we wasted 89's.  Talking about failure to maximize the talent of a beast on the field in his prime. Hopefully those days are over.

Rifts in team chemistry, I see this posted often, but nothing at all to back it up. What we do know for a fact is he was quoted last year as lighting a fire under the teams ass, and being a leader in games.

This whole Cam couldn't lead without Smith stepping down as well is just a pile of horseshit. Who the fug needs someone to move out of the way to lead? That's really what leading is to you? Having a guy removed so you can just assume a role by de-facto?

The only possible rift was from Smith and the management.

Little confused how we wasted his prime years.  Care to elaborate?

what if cutting smitty now meant we could afford both star and kk in the future?

What rifts in team chemistry? If Cam needed smith gone to become a leader then cam will never be a leader. Cam and Luke have been leading this team before smiths releases.......Idk how smith could effect lukes leadership since he's on defense but cams the one calling the shots he showed that all last year
