Smitty may be even more pissed than we thought (Panthers related)

it's a natural reaction. if i got let go and signed with a another team damn right i'd have a chip on my shoulder. what's he supposed to do? smile and send flowers to Gman and co? it's in his bones. it's sad to see people talk bad about him after all he's done for us. he's a panthers legend and the amount of disrespect being shown here is disgusting.

also give the smith is going to get ejected a rest..............he wants to prove DG wrong, unless he had personal issues with some of the db's besides Harper i don't see smith personal attacking guys he called teammates a year ago..........and i pretty sure he realizes they weren't responsible for his release

Cmon bro. Steve Smith returned the opening kickoff his rookie year for a TD. He earned a starting spot in 2002 and had 54 catches that year. Ricky Proehl didn't come until 2003. Steve was already well on his way to be very successful. No one held his hand and gave him opportunities. Ricky Proehl is great, but Steve was already on his way to be great before Ricky Proehl dawned a Panthers jersey.

See, this is the problem with most fans. They only see what they want. Reality/truth be dammed.

Everyone knows Smitty's history. What he did, where he came from, all that jazz. If you don't know about Ricky helping him, there is nothing I can do for you.

"Vintage Smitty" is like pregnant women smoking back in the 60's.

It was OK back then, but that poo ain't OK now.

I know right.  Seeing that clip really made me feel like we were harboring a moron the whole time.  Most fans don't want to hear it, but if he had done the same stuff he did here(Punching CBs and beating other WRs to a pulp in the film room) he would have been gone a long time ago.  Gettleman came in and was like I don't want that on my team.

This team is closer to Gettleman's ideal team.  Its like Greg Olsen told Roman Harper, "There really isn't a bad apple in the bunch".  Looking at that clip makes me think Steve is rotten to the core and was an issue last year.

Week 1:

15 targets, 7 catches, 4 drops, 118 Yd, 1 Td

Vs

8 targets, 6 receptions, 0 drops, 92 Yd, 1 Td

Sorry Steve, DG knows what he's doing.

The two didn't have to be mutually exclusive.

Smitty is the WR2, much like he would have been here.  How about compare his stats to J-Co's?

4 targets, 4 receptons. 0 drops, 32 Yds, 0 TDs.

And let's not mention the fact that Smitty had an uncharacteristic amount of drops.

Just sayin'.

I'm a fan of the team only. Never of a single player. There are Panthers that I will always be grateful for, and Smitty is certainly one of them.

But he's a Raven now. Carolina has moved on. I've moved on. Some you should move on.

Smitty hasn't and that's fine. If he pulls anything funny against us, whatever it may be, I sincerely hope our defensive leaders maintain integrity. Otherwise, it will be the 49ers all over again and could get ugly for us.

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
