Smitty may be even more pissed than we thought (Panthers related)

Seen Goodell's  quotes lately?

Yes, what has that got to do with Steve Smith's interview with sports illustrated? If you don't believe what Smith said, that's up to you but you are not going to convince anyone that his words should not be trusted when you have no evidence to prove otherwise.

Smitty has credited Ricky for helping to make him into a more complete WR. So...yup, Smitty has gotten groomed by someone.

Cmon bro. Steve Smith returned the opening kickoff his rookie year for a TD. He earned a starting spot in 2002 and had 54 catches that year. Ricky Proehl didn't come until 2003. Steve was already well on his way to be very successful. No one held his hand and gave him opportunities. Ricky Proehl is great, but Steve was already on his way to be great before Ricky Proehl dawned a Panthers jersey.

Week 4 Prediction:

Steve Smith lets his bulldog mouth override his puppy dog ass and Thomas Davis sends his ass running for the tunnel with his tail tucked between his legs.

I'll say this, Steve Smith is by far my favorite athlete/celebrity of all-time. It's not even close. I think he is a truly great HOF-caliber player and I grew up watching him. I've come to terms with him being cut, it really sucks but I understand it. I've also come to terms with the fact that he is immature and will never grow up. It's okay because it's part of what makes him so special. He has rare talent but his small stature and fiery attitude are what makes him unique. At the same time it's kinda sad and embarrassing, though. The man is 35 years old with a pregnant wife and 3 kids, along with his well known history here, yet he still acts like a petulant child and has the maturity of a 10 year old. Seriously. He's also a hypocrite on so many levels. He'll preach to people about god and living the right way, then turn around and drop F bombs. He gets all upset that Carolina cut him (which was 100% the right move, he wasn't worth the salary & would've hamstrung the team), yet before he was cut he blabbed and joked about how he wouldn't take a pay cut and literally said he was in it for the money and personal stats at this point.

Here's what's gonna happen Sunday. Steve is gonna be amped up and he's gonna run his mouth and go after one of the young DBs (Norman, White, etc). There will be minor scuffles, yet Steve won't let it go. He'll keep pushing and pushing with one of them till he goes too far and it turns into a fight. Then Thomas Davis is gonna step in and beat his tiny ass into the ground. I'm sure Steve and Thomas are close friends, but TD will not let Smitty push around one of his teammates. Same goes for Hardy, Luke, CJ, etc. I know Steve is a serious badass, but so are those guys. As much as they love and respect 89, once he crosses a line with one of their teammates they will gladly put him in his place.

It's too bad Steve can't grow up and be the bigger man for once in his life.

Football is an emotional game. Steve plays best when he can feed of emotion; mostly anger. Steve has given we Panther fans many wonderful moments. Nobody in the Panthers organization would try to assert that Steve can no longer play. No knowledgeable fan would try to say that either. Anyone who has watched the Panthers for the last few years can see a drop off in production. The front office could see things we do not have the vantage points to see. If Getts felt that Steve would help the "new school" of Panthers, he would have kept him. For Getts to in effect pay him to go speaks volumes about how Steve was fitting into the vision for the future of this team. I am a Panthers fan. I want to see the best for the future of the TEAM. Apparently Steve is (and I can't blame him) concerned for the future of Steve and I would venture to assume, his family. Good tidings Steve. I have nothing but love and respect for what you have meant to this organization. Nobody meant to disrespect you. Most of the fans still love you man.You have been great for us. Times change Steve. It is you who seem to be showing that disrespect that you are claiming is directed to you.  If you choose to disrespect my boys, however, you have to go down . At least for that game. Best wishes to you and yours...otherwise!

Man it's gonna be a game week 4, all hell will break loose that day.......dg fugged up on that one i will say, he's done a good job clearing cap and signing players we can get the most out of but this decision was one of the dumbest

and before someone say were paying him too much he was never asked for a pay cut

he puts in 10 plus season with us and is release without dignity.

I hope smith proves him wrong.............i just hope it can occur with the ravens taking a L that day

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
