Goodell will be fired/resign by next week

I agree with you that the prosecutor should be taking A LOT more heat on this, but given the way Goodell has positioned himself as judge, jury, and prosecutor when it comes to discipline in the NFL he has basically built his own gallows.

The bottom line is that the media and politicians are attention whores. They're always going to go after the big story. Going after some random NJ prosecutor? Peanuts. They'll leave that to local media. Going after the NFL and NFL Commissioner? Yeah, they're gonna feast on that.

But Goodell isn't a judge. He is just a dude that got tired of way the NFL was. So ultimately you are using the fact he got tired of guys getting away with so much poo....as why he is guilty. In terms of cleaning up the league and that is what the outrage is....Goodell has been leading the charge. When things calm down it will be harder for people trying to flip reality of that upside down

I just think at the end of the day the grandstanding and using the NFL and directing the energy away from where it legitimately belongs....is seen for what it is

Disagree... just a baseless opinion. Like him or not it won't be easy for the NFL to just can him. I say he survives this. Would like to see oddsmakers lines on it

Uh they can do whatever they want whenever they want seeing as he's the chosen representative of the owners and there are a hundred empty suits lined up to take his place, like last time's runner up Rich McKay or Condoleeza Rice.

Roger? Is that you?

If I were Roger I would have threw him under the bus long ago before siding with hiding it. That's what Roger is thinking now. Chicks get smacked all the time bro (WHICH IS NOT COOL EVEN IF THEY ARE WILLING) so this is only a big deal because of the money and names involved. If you guys care so much about the treatment of these abused women/men, then what are you doing for the battered women's shelters, or the kids that lost parents due to domestic violence? truth will always bring discomfort but denying it creates a fantasy! WAKE UP!

Yeah, Goodell is doing a fine job of cleaning up the league. I guess it's just a coincidence that some of the biggest PR poo storms the NFL has endured have come under his watch. Spygate, Bountygate, and now Wifebeatergate are his biggest legacies so far.

To clean up a league....stuff has to get messy. He has lead the charge. Can't argue that. Can't use the fact he is harder than anyone on athletes against him in the topic of why aren't we harder on athletes. Yes, his office didn't get this one right from the jump.....the outrage is still misplaced

Think back to a couple years ago. Dude gets a DIU and kills a woman. Same dude gets a DUI again after killing someone while intoxicated.....NFL's response?

Cleaning stuff up isn't just about handing down stiffer penalties. If it was, the war on drugs wouldn't be the disaster that it has been. Goodell has acted as if and set the expectation that was the right road to go down which is the same reason why he's taking so much heat for this one. He essentially abandoned his own philosophy and handed out a slap on the wrist for an egregious crime. A crime that just so happened to get caught on video. A video that was made available to the league office which they either terribly mishandled or bald face lied about. Either of which reflects very badly on the leadership.

A lot of parties look much worse than Goodell and many have a greater duty than him....

His slap on the wrist, which he admitted was too weak before the tape leak.....still was likely stronger than we have seen before. Goodell has been far from flawless. Big picture, he is one of the first that has tried to step up

The League has now hired an independent investigator (link)

The league has announced that former FBI director Robert Mueller will lead an independent investigation into the NFL’s handling of the Rice case.  Presumably, the investigation will be far more independent and objective than the review conducted by Mary Jo White in the bounty case.  Two years ago, White behaved as an independent advocate for the league’s hammering of the Saints, not as an independent investigator.  It’s critical that Mueller be truly and completely independent, with no agenda or directive or predetermined outcome.

It’s also critical that his results be reported publicly.  The league hid nothing regarding the bullying scandal in Miami.  The league should hide nothing here.

Hiring an independent investigator was the only viable option.  Entrusting the internal review of the Associated Press report to NFL Security made no sense, since NFL Security becomes the obvious starting point for the search for the culprit.  Also, with a slew of early retirements, resignations, and possibly even terminations likely once the dust settles, NFL Security likely has the most to lose moving forward, since that’s the department initially responsible for the multiple failures of diligence, logic, and/or common sense.

This is one time when I'm in agreement with Florio.  This was the right call.

He's the first commissioner for the NFL during the "twitter era" so I don't really think it's fair to compare him to Tagliabue in that regard.

A better comparison is Adam Silver who is flat out stripping owners of their teams.

Also I seem to remember Randy McMichael getting suspended all the time for beating the hell out of his wife.

Step up? Did you see his interview? That was a man who at best was not divulging the entire truth. He damn well made sure he threw in that "not to my knowledge", disclaimer to his previous firm "no".

The prosecutor in the criminal case absolutely should come under fire, but the national media and national figures will go after the big fish. It'll be up to local media and local figures to go after the prosecutor. Which it looks like is happening.

Twitter era or not....still the internet easy access era

Rod Smith's situation in 2000 is very comparable to Rice. Took a plea as well. What happened to him? No suspension

Randy McMichael beat his pregnant wife in June of 2004. How many games did he play in the 2014 season? 16

And that is just CDV. Not to mention the Leonard Littles and other poo.

Even when Goodell fugs up with a light punishment it is harsher than anyone else has done.

Apparently goodell is hiring the fbi to investigate the ray rice situation, will this be a good thing or a bad thing for hardy? I see it as a possible good if hardy acted in self defense, if not he deserves the punishment point blank, it sucks but u gotta deal with the ditch you dug(hardy). At least then the truth will be surfaced and the right outcome will come of it rather than punishing hardy on blind anger. Who knows man this is all a mess? Til then i hope our back ups are ready cuz the kraken might jus be meeting his maker. Good thing we still got big money!
