How did your daughter's team do yesterday Jimmy?  Hope she played well.

Thanks for asking.

Well, it started off like this: We got there early because she wanted to watch some of the older girls' games. As we were getting ready to sit down one of the coaches from the 7th grade regional travel team, that is part of our program, asked if Hope (my daughter) could play for them today because they only had 5.  They wanted an extra on the bench in case someone got hurt. My daughter is in the 5th grade and at first was adament about not wanting to do it.  She was afraid of playing with "those big girls". My convincing did no good at all.  I told her this was a great opportunity to learn and get better and to give it a try. Nothing.  But then the coaches came over and encouraged her. This team had a special guest assistant coach, Chante Black, and she came over and that did the trick.  Chante is a former Duke All-American and current WNBA player.  She also is a former alumnus of the AAU organization Hope plays for now. Sure enough, a girl got hurt and my baby played the whole 2nd half and even scored 3 points and had 2 blocks...booyah! On that day, she played 2 games with her 5th grade team and 3 with the 7th graders.  It was a good day, even though they lost all of them.  The really cool part was that she was taller than half the 7th graders out there and you wouldn't have been able to pick her out as being the youngest.  She plays the 4 & 5 (Center and PF) on her 5th grade team. All her fears went away and now she is talking about wanting to play "up" al the time.  Not so fast little one, your time will come. Winston-Salem Stealers is the name of her AAU organization.

Pics because it did happen:
