The Observer: Panthers Should Suspend Hardy Now

Apples to oranges comparison.

You have to let the legal process finish. Dont you think that the nfl and jerry followed that court case closely? h. He is still in the appeals process. That would be setting a dangerous precedent

It is apples to oranges....

Hardy has more legally against him than Big Ben ever did.

Big Ben never had to appeal anything bc he never was charged and convicted with anything.

Hardy could of never charged with anything and been suspended. The fact he appealed a conviction doesn't suddenly make him dangerous territory. Guys have been suspended for LESS.

Yeah completely different situations.

If the Panthers have/had access to incontrovertible evidence that Hardy is guilty of domestic violence/battery of a woman/etc, then absolutely suspend him now. I suspect that they would have done that already if such a thing that existed.

Hardy is embroiled in what is essentially a he said/she said situation where something certainly occurred, but no one is sure of exactly what, and until he's convicted or acquitted by a jury there isn't much the Panthers can or should do.

Apples and oranges. Rice's (now wife) has a mix of Stockholm Syndrome with Battered Spouse Syndrome. He was found guilty in court. There was indisputable video evidence of what Rice did (call that a guilty verdict). It looks TERRIBLE for the NFL not only that they tried to sweep it under the rug with a 2 game suspension but that they probably saw the video of him in the elevator and did nothing about it.

Hardy on the other hand is involved in a criminal trial that is being appealed with controversial evidence that has not come to an outcome yet. Hardy should not be suspended or punished until the outcome of his trial.

Again, being devils advocate...

so I assume you think Big Ben's 6 game was absurd and a tragedy?

Now my own opinion is I was surprised JR didn't hit him with a couple games off the bat. That is how I thought he rolled. I posted several times right when the Hardy news broke JR would act himself....and act before the league even chimed in. I would have supported it.

He didn't. I disagreed. But now, since he didn't....I'm not sure I would agree with punishing based on other scenarios. Either he did or didn't deserve it.....Richardson ruled he didn't then. If you flip flop you better stand up and have something good to say that has little to do with Ray Rice

It's just crazy that the media has pretty much convicted Hardy even though his real trial has yet to take place.  Of course I don't know about the 49ers situation with their player, but for anyone who followed the Hardy trial (and Schefty definitely followed that trial.  It was because of his comments about it as it was going on, that I decided to follow it instead of waiting for a verdict the next day), should know just how outrageous Holder's story is.  Yet the media is not going to point that out at all.  So along with not giving Hardy due diligence, they have pretty much ignored everything about the case.  It's one thing to mention Hardy has an ongoing trial concerning domestic violence, it's another thing to keep harping on a judge finding him guilty.  So what is the media going to do if the jury finds him not guilty?  Would Hardy be able to sue the media for libel?

They didn't line up to execute Rice so they have to find the next closest guy with a bit of a name at a recognizable position in a semi relevant place that they can get the big markets behind them in their saber rattling. Hardy is the perfect fit to their agendas. It's a win win for them. The Charlotte market holds no sway in the ratings and they get to scream from the roof tops how they stand in solidarity against domestic violence.
