If the line isn't stellar then Stewart isn't stellar. He needs room to gain momentum. Otherwise he gets stood up quite a lot. I also don't understand why we run sweeps and tosses with him AT ALL. Why would we EVER want Stewart moving laterally?

Because he is fast. That has been what he has been quite good at.

Is it crazy to just say the line blocked better for Deangelo? I saw Stew getting hit in the backfield and grind out a 3 yard gain. There is value in that. I don't like to get caught up in yards per carry because every play comes under unique circumstances.

Deangelo ran harder than we've become accustomed to. Credit to him for that. But he had a ton of ineffective runs too.

Tolbert didn't have a great game running but some of his carries were clock killing in a stacked box. And any type of misdirection or read option was less effective with DA in there.

No he didn't man. Maybe like twice. He ran 14 times for 70+ yards and its not like he broke off a 40 yarder. Most of his runs were in the 4 to 8 yard gain range. Deangelo gets up to speed faster than Tolbert or Stew and like you said he was running hard and breaking tackles better than we've seen in awhile. Maybe his mom's passing and everyone crushing has him refocused a bit. I know he hasn't been doing interviews this year so to me that says he just wants to play. Hopefully so. We need his speed on offense even more this year.

Like Squirrel said I don't think there was anything wrong with Stew or Tolbert. Deangelo is just not as washed up as everyone wants to declare(not saying in any way that he's 08 DW). The oline gave him some push and creases that did not happen alot last year. People are funny making excuses for why he ran well. He just played better on Sunday simple as that. That can and probably will change week to week.

The funny part will be IF he does it again vs the Lions, heads will pop on here.  If he had gotten 6 more carries  he would've been over a 100 yards and who knows if he would have broken one.  I hope our new oline can build on Sunday. That will be awesome. The playaction off the running game to Benji an the rest will get even better. I don't care which running back runs well each week, we just need our running game to be good

One of the many reasons teams go to the mufti back attack is because defenses are better at defending some type of runners over others

Teams with high end DTs will be more able to stop the likes of Stewart and Tolbert . Teams with their strength on the outside will be better able to stop Deangelo .
