Cut or Keep Greg Hardy

Ok... that's a good point.

I'll relent.  Like I said I don't want us to lose Hardy. He was nice to me when I had a brief conversation with him and he's the best DE in the league.  I just don't want the Panthers to have to deal with what the Ravens are just beginning to deal with.

We will lose Hardy unless he's found completely innocent AND is willing to play for peanuts after this year.  The Ravens didn't cover anything up, all that was released was a different angle of the video released months ago.  The only recorded incident of this Hardy situation are the police reports and Hardy's 911 call.  I highly doubt we are covering anything up.

Just because we are starting to taste success doesn't mean we are the Saints or Patriots.

Don't get it.

Many people want to damn Hardy before his right to due process.  Communist controlled countries during the cold war had little or no "natural" rights granted to citizens.  What rights they did have were often ignored by governing powers.

My biggest problem with the NFL in this entire situation is the punishment and PR makes it look like they aided Ray Rice in continuing his career. The fact that they terminate him the day the truth comes out makes it look like they threw the drugs out the window when the Cop flashes his lights. It's like they thought they could get away with it.

But we have to keep in mind Ray Rice beat his wife, not the NFL.

I've known a few abused women....... I have done everything possible for two of them..  I have given them support,  given them cards and called up women shelters to let them know to expect them...  offered to drive them there myself,  have had interventions, .. these women have no children...so there isn't that mental anchor weighing on them.                   Both of them...............always go back to their husband and boyfriend.

One claimed that she hates the idea of her husband being alone and heartbroken...  has nothing to do with fear...but everything to do with believing that kind of relationship is "love".   For those like that,  I'm sorry,  but I don't feel bad for them anymore...  I feel for them as much as I would feel for meth head that is slowly killing himself because he refuses to break his meth habit... because something in his mind tells him that if he doesn't get  just a little more,  he's going to die.

I think the female mind works like that.  Some of them think they deserve it.  I know my mom was stuck way too long in one of those and we did finally end up staying in a battered woman's shelter.  I think it has to do with the self esteem and feeling of not being good enough that makes woman do that.  Most women in those situations had prior marriages or relationships that didn't work.  In essence they're scared of being alone and think of themselves as damaged good so they're just holding on to something bad because it's better then being alone.

And whether you feel bad for her or not.....Ray Rice was wrong.

Again, two completely different animals.

And it should be noted that even though there have been cases of domestic abuse in the NFL, the reason this one has blown up is because of the lack of punishment by the league and the Ravens for a situation where the evidence is literally right in front of their eyes.

With the Saints bounty scandal, the punishment fit the crime. This one never came close, and once we find out why that punishment was never handed down, we could be looking at a new commissioner.

In terms of severity from a societal stand point, I'd have to say the Williams case takes the cake.  Promoting players to injure others?  That can ruin careers and 31 NFL rosters were his target.  That's a lot of careers to threaten.  A lot of people's means of financially supporting themselves and their family.

Once again, being clear I don't condone Rice's actions.

Some women a drawn to physically and or psychologically abusive men. They stay in the relationship because they want to be in the relationship, and they want to be abused. Some women enjoy being abused.

I would call you crazy but I have witnessed this first-hand.

Panthers would be wise to be proactive. Some things are bigger then football. I also know there are crazy women out there looking to extort players. What evidence are the Panthers aware of in the Greg Hardy case? How does it differ from Ray Rice's case? What we've learned from the Rice case is that sometimes the legal system doesn't get it right so teams shouldn't only use the results of the courts to make decisions. Hopefully the Panthers decide to conduct a further investigation aside from the results in the courts. This would allow us to avoid a future PR nightmare and distraction to the team. The truth is, the media is getting ready to hone in on the Hardy case.

If the Panthers know the details of the Hardy case (and the details end up being really bad) and are just trying to keep it quiet until the legalities play out don't they still have a responsibility ultimately to set an example for the community and do the right thing?

I'm all for for giving Greg a fair shake if the evidence is mucky. However if there's clear cut evidence that hasn't been made public the Panthers shouldn't waste any time parting ways.

Watching that video struck a chord for me because I grew up in a home that featured an abusive stepfather. I watched that video and it made me think back about some sour memories of what happened to my mother when I was young. I simply can't support a cover up for the sake of football and I'd like to think the Panthers hold themselves to a high moral code.

I really hope that Greg didn't act to the same extent as Ray Rice.....but if he did he just has to go.

Sorry that happened but you need to take your emotion out of this.

Looking at evidence or lack there of would show you this is nothing like the rice case and just shows that you are caught in the moment.

I'm not damning the guy.  I just think the Panthers better damn well know what happen before they're turned into goats.

A woman shouldn't really have to go through all that.

Then continue to live your shitty life with your shitty abusive man.  Wouldn't it be nice if all men were born incapable of harming women in any way?

You can't help people who don't ask for it.  If you are legitimately in fear of leaving your man because he might try to kill you, then you need to take necessary steps for your own safety.  It sucks but all people need to take drastic measures when drastic situations call for it.

The alternative is we could just let the government document everything that happens in our homes at all times just in case we decide a woman needs to be saved.

Yeah I might be caught in the moment to a degree.

Like I said in what you quoted:  Im all for giving Hardy a fair shake if the evidence is mucky.

However if there's more known by the organization and it's really bad I'll be greatly disappointed.

Ultimately, we all want to see what's best for us as fans so we are going to naturally take Hardy's side, but it is troubling to scan through this board and see comments accusing the victim of fabricating a story to extort Greg. You'll recall Ravens fans giving Rice standing ovations  in camp when this all started because he was a nice person and a good upstanding member of the community.

I agree, Hardy should be given the benefit of the doubt, but that doesn't mean we should be accosting the victim. There's a very real possibility that what the victim suggests happened actually did transpire.

I said a woman shouldn't have to do that if she wants to get out of a relationship.  How do you connect government surveillance to that?

She might have too....but she shouldn't have too.
