  • Ryan Kalil missed two plays because of an issue with his shoulder pads.
  • Fernando Velasco started at right guard, but rookie Trai Turner still had a chance to get his feet wet.
  • Lots of shuffling on the line, which helped it hold up well in the humid conditions.
  • Ed Dickson got 24 snaps at tight end, but he was never targeted. Curious how often he was used as a blocker vs. as a receiver.

  • For as humid as it was, and considering Mario Addison and Wes Horton are solid backups, Greg Hardy and Charles Johnson played a lot. Good to see Johnson get through the whole game without retweaking his hamstring.
  • The rotation was much more apparent at defensive tackle, and again, while Colin Cole starts, Kawann Short gets more time.
  • Will probably continue to bring this up, but here’s another reminder of how much more important nickel is than the third linebacker in the Panthers defense. Bené Benwikere played 40 snaps, compared to 16 for the A.J. Klein/Chase Blackburn combo.
  • Charles Godfrey is listed as a cornerback, but he played plenty at strong safety in place of Roman Harper whose 19 snaps are somewhat surprising low.
  • Not sure what all the hubbub was about Thomas DeCoud as he only missed three snaps.

Harper's low snap count is surprising.  Wonder why that is?  He didn't play at all during the preseason so maybe he's still getting up to speed with everything.

 

since he missed most of TC....and preseason..   probably not up to football speed just yet,  to play in the humidity of TB..

Harper is used more when the Bucs are expected to run, he is great at laying the wood on the running back.

The Bucs played from behind much of the game yesterday, less running from them, fewer snaps for Harper.

 

Did you have eyes on Decoud?  His name wasn't called yesterday and that's normally a good thing,  but from those watching at home, it means that we don't really get to see how they are doing.

I saw Hardy completely gassed out there on the Sucs 2nd TD drive. Like on a knee not moving.

 

I thought I saw him motion to come out a few time, they left him in.

 

Maybe due to "light" training camp, and cooler than normal temps in SC, the boys aren't fully conditioned yet.

Wow that Bene / 3rd LB snap count ratio is pretty interesting.  Can anyone go more in depth on that?

 

We probably knew they weren't going to beat us primarily with their run game, especially in the second half. The Bucs do have some weapons in the pass game.  Also having a nickel out there allowed us to allow Roman Harper to play to his strengths by focusing on attacking down hill.
