Ray Rice Video Leaked. Rice's Contract Terminated By Ravens.

I don't see what the big deal is. If you want to see a real beating look up what War Machine did to Christy Mack. Sure, it's wrong and he deserves to be in trouble but I don't think he should be in more trouble than he would have been if he punched a dude. I'm a strong supporter of equal rights.

If they didn't see that video until today, then they didn't even attempt to do due diligence.  If I was the NFL, I'm not sure what I'd be more ashamed to admit - that a tabloid was able to acquire security video that they couldn't or that they saw the video and still decided to only suspend him for two games.

That's my belief.  Anyone who says "Good job ravens"...seriously?  They are in full on clusterfug mode.  they are only doing it now because they are trying to cover their ass.

Although what Ray did was wrong, very wrong he did admit to it and receive the initial punishment, but now since the public can see the video his punishment increases.............it's messed up in a way but his initial punishment was too soft

Roger thought he could slide by as long as the video didn't come out...

Pacman Jones: Roger Goodell makes decisions based on media

Pacman-jones-roger-goodell-media.jpgPacman Jones thinks the media might be influencing Roger Goodell's decisions. (USATSI)

Adam 'Pacman' Jones is no stranger to the iron fist of Roger Goodell. The Bengals defensive back missed the entire 2007 season after being suspended by Goodell following multiple run-ins with the law.

Despite the suspension, Jones doesn't think Goodell is doing a bad job as commissioner, but he does have one small issue: Jones believes Goodell's decisions are overly influenced by the media.

Ray Rice's actions were atrocious given the new video evidence.  Before it sounded like she was beating the hell out him and he attacked in self-defense, which clearly wasn't the case.  However, I do agree that this is a total PR stunt by both the Ravens and the League.  A bit ironic considering the Ravens just unveiled their new statue of their murdering, future HOF Ray Lewis.

From Roger Cossack, ESPN Legal Analyst...this ain't over, legally.

Article

Double jeopardy means that you cannot be tried twice for the same crime by the same jurisdiction.

In the case of Ray Rice, it means that the Ravens running back cannot be put in jeopardy, a criminal prosecution, for punching his then-fiancée.

Even if the prosecutor tried to use different charges it would not be allowed if the underlying facts are the same. So double jeopardy does apply and Rice cannot be charged again in the case.

The NFL cannot increase Rice's punishment by claiming the league did not know the seriousness of what Rice did. First, who didn't know that Rice punched Palmer while in the elevator? Did anyone really think she fainted?

Second, the punishment has already been decided both in court and by the NFL and has been partially served by Rice.

If the NFL or the Ravens tried to increase the punishment by claiming they didn't know what he did, they would lose in court.

-- Roger Cossack, ESPN legal analyst

He can't be tried again in court, that would be a violation of the double jeopardy rule.  I am no legal analyst, but I don't think that applies to a private employer.

Is the analyst trying to say that some sort of double jeopardy clause is built into the NFL players union contract?  I would like to see that.

This new video conflicts a lot of stories that initially came out. I don't see how she was initially arrested based on the videos out now. What else isn't being shown? Regardless, any real man would have just restrained her when she came at him. Or hell just take it like Jay did.

From my understanding, the union ensured he couldn't be "tried twice" for his indiscretion here by the team or the league...  once they doled out the punishment, that's what he had to do and that was that.

BUT, I don't think that covers whether a team decides to end your employment or not.  I do think the union will pursue their option still on both the release AND the suspension.  I think they have more ground to stand on with the suspension...  They can't do much about his release in my novice understanding of the mechanics here.

Let me preface this by stating I do not condone Ray Rice's actions and this is something that he has to live with for the rest of his life.

If Ray Rice was initially suspending 6-10 games by Roger Goodell like many had hoped he would, do you think that the negative attitude towards him with this new video evidence would be as severe as it is? Does the 2 game suspension have any effect on your personal view towards him?

yeah i agree i'm trying to word this without looking like a jackass.......Ray and his Wife have already dealt with the situation he received what he thought would be his punishment and got on with his life.............now this footage hits the public and Him and his wife have to deal with this again........i acknowledge what he did was terribly wrong but damn is there any such thing as forgiveness, people make mistakes........i just think they took it a little to far with the suspended indefinitely, everything else is warranted

Goodell should have gave him a 6 or 8 games suspension, maybe a year with the Fine when he initial looked at the footage not go into principal mode when the media starts breathing down your neck

    • his height, size and arm will forever cause problems and limitations...that is what it is.  I think to a degree, the law of averages is just coming into play a bit with him.  So as he plays more and more, you just flat out get the decent days mixed in too.  Which is just going to happen.
    • Good point. He's definitely better in 10-15 yards. I think that's his biggest improvement. But he wasn't 3-10 +15, he was 3-7, with at least one drop (minor but still). And with multiple passes at 14 yards completed. This passing chart doesn't look like at By one, lol. He threw more "deep" passes than Mahomes (NOT comparing him to Mahomes in a skill way lol), or at least more beyind 10 yards.
    • Karlaftis and Danna have been pretty inconsistent so teams have been doubling Jones and able to contain their pass rush.   But the good thing is that yesterday, we schemed well against Steve Spags Defense, Canales married the surrounding personnel with his QB through play designs within his comfort zone and was able to get downfield at will.  He was able to execute higher difficulty throws and look a lot more comfortable.  It tells me that Canales has a good system in mind, and had an edge gameplanning wise against Spagnuolo - which is nice to see.  It's a bit to see-saw at times with either going way too pass heavy or way too run heavy, but I think he's finding out what works.  It takes time to have it come together, and sure, I could see regression happen against a better front-7, but this was good for the entire system gelling.
