Brandon can do anything Richy can, and probably better. Except play FB. And in our scheme, that gives Richy the edge.

Bill Voth says specifically in the article that Brockel is more versatile on special teams.

I trust Bill Voth more than anyone here.

One more thing, how is Voth getting this information? Is it legit? If it is legit, how are the Panthers going to continue giving him access? Giving out this information 13 hours before a game is an advantage for the Bucs.

I was hoping Eely would be a special teams ace and situational pass rusher, but we have a long season ahead. I can see him playing a prominent role next week even.

I don't think any of that is a disadvantage....Bucs have already announced on some guys too

I'm not blaming Tolbert for Deangelo's decline. There is a direct correlation from Hoovers retirement to said decline. DW runs better from pro set with an actual FB while Stewart doesn't need a lead blocker. Tolbert is a RB asked to block too much.

Hoov was a one of the best in the game....and they are almost nonexistent now. RBs in today's NFL don't need a blocking FB....offense can stress a D a little more out of a different set

Williams was playing the TE/FB spot during camp

I remember seeing Brandon in the HB position, but don't remember him at FB. If he can learn FB, I would think he would move ahead of Richy. The only thing Richy is better at, imo, is the FB position. Brandon has come a long way in his blocking.

To me, FB is the only reason Richy is still around.

I have seen Brandon making plenty of plays on ST. So I trust my eyes.

The past couple second round picks we had inactive to start the season were Dwayne Jarrett and Eric Shelton. Even Everette Brown suited up and played to start the season. The Panthers could of had an OL starting week 1 with that pick - like Justin Britt. That is disappointing. You don't develop 2nd round picks. They need to be contributing from day one as a back up in a rotation or as a starter. Ealy could not beat out Horton or Addison? Seriously? It better be injury related.

Would never forget about Tolbert, he is an average blocker at best. This is part of the reason for deangelos decline, started when Hoover left.

I absolutely agree and have been thinking this the last few seasons. We hardly ever use a lead blocker since Cam arrived for one thing, and when we do, Tolbert seems like a liability. I've seen him completely whiff and I've seen many times where he seems to just throw his body at a guy, whereas Hoover would stand people up in the hole and grab on.

 

I like to watch Tolbert run and dance as much as anybody, but he does not play like a complete FB in my opinion.
