Is Shula waiting till Sunday to use the double TE sets?

The Shula hate is retarded. He was actually amazing minus one or two games. Offense made our defense and defense made out offense. Throw in excellent special teams and we were one well oiled machine.

I expect kb is going to provide some explosion though. Shula schemed within the talent, made cam a better decision maker.

It wasnt that our playcalling was boring, it was that Shula seemed to label guys and then force them into molds. Examples were abundant, especially early in the season.

We know Tolbert is a bruising running back that gets plenty of yards after contact so Shula takes that to mean that when Tolbert goes in we can only run straight up the gut... when in reality, other than goal-line, these plays did not work at all. He is much better in space where he can build up a head of steam -think SF game.

We know that Cam can run. Shula takes that to mean that we need to run Cam out of shotgun all of the time and run read-option plays frequently. These killed any run-game that we had and weren't very productive. The run game for both Cam and the RBs is much better in traditional sets where we can run play-action. Cam can fake, turn around and assess the field, and then take off if there are holes.

Now, these habits did change a little as the year went on but Shula clearly didn't adapt as fast as he should have. The 12-4 season bought him some time. Hopefully he can build on what he learned last year and make the offense a bit more dynamic.

Also, I know he is probably our 3rd TE option but I would love to see B.Williams get some plays. He needs some PT for the intimidation factor alone.

It took a minute, but there are finally a few huddlers giving Shula some credit.  I seen a guy last week say that he would bring Chud back and say all this nonsense about it better be first year Chud instead of second year Chud.  Then we would win a super bowl.  The only really bone headed decisions Chud made to me last year, was putting Cam under center on the goal line in the playoff game.  If he would have been in shotgun, we would have went up 17-6.  We moved the ball all up and down the field last year.  You know what they say about haters though.

So he put people Iin molds early in the season on his first season of being an OC and that is your complaint?

And because he changed and adapted but not as much as you think he should then he didn't do a good job.

Shula did what he was asked to do which is run a ball control offense, use what he had which was a bad line and a bunch of high priced running backs and a collection of receivers that were serviceable at best and score points and control the clock. He did all those things and we went 12-4 which matches the best win total in our history and that isn't good enough? You guys slay me with the nitpicking as if you could do better.

There is a whole article about this issue (link below).  Rivera has also addressed this in multiple radio and TV interviews.  I think they will use multiple back sets and double TE sets to open up the outside passing game.  What NFL team would not exploit their opponents personal with their own?  They are deep at RB and TE so why not?  I am not sure we watched any of their base formations in the pre-season this year.

How does this work with Cam's looming contract?

Gman is not dumb. You can see how difficult it is to come by a decent QB in this league. There is no way they can find a better QB for the team with the way the Panther's are currently set. Cam will be paid when it's time and I doubt it will be any of those cosmetic deals Dalton or Kap signed.

Where Does the whole 29th in ttotal offense comes from? i guess from yards, explosive plays? idk.

Ive Been preachimg this for a while. We are like this offensivly for a reason

It is a product of the # of drives and time per drive by a teams offense and defense.

When you look at "per game" stats for an offense you are viewing the offensive system which has a direct correlation with the opposing offensive systems and defensive systems that team has faced over a season. Football comes down to the drive and not the game when you want to compare productivity. A team like the Eagles will have 203 drives in a season with their system. The Panthers have 170 drives in a season. So, on a ppg basis it is giving the Eagles an extra 3 games worth of drives in comparison to the Panthers. So, if you look at ppg stats you will see teams like the Eagles, Bengals, and Chiefs drop when you compare that to points per drive productivity/scoring%. The Panthers on the other hand rise in the rankings when you view league productivity.

The beauty of the game is that one team will not have significantly more drives than the other team on game day. Teams must exchange drive for drive in a game. They are put on an even playing field. Thus the saying "on any given Sunday".
