Is Shula waiting till Sunday to use the double TE sets?

I hate Shula...we have some really good coaches on both sides of the ball but it's tough to believe in that guy

I wouldn't worry.  Either the offense shows appreciable improvement or Shula may be looking for a job.  You know Rivera and Gettleman evaluate each coach on a never ending cycle and I am sure Dave leans heavily on Ron's opinion.

Ron may be cockeyed, but he ain't blind.

Agreed. G-man doesn't seem to be the type to keep something that isn't working

I saw someone reply to the article on the sight talking about our 6'4 TEs going with Kelvin Benjamin. Can you imagine what our offense will do if Hill meets his potential with us ?

I truly believe we have much better offensive options than last year....I just hope Shula can put it together

More Shula hate. Dive into the stats and find me one meaningful statistic that shows Shula is not among the top OCs of the NFL last season. Any statistical category with significance had the Panthers ranked between 2nd to 15th in the NFL.

There is one area the Panthers were weak in on offense compared to the rest of the league. That would be red zone receiving threats.

Points per drive - Rank 10th - 1.99 ppd
Avg. Drive Time - Rank 2nd - 3:00
Yards/Drive - Rank 10th - 29.8 y/d
Turnover % - Rank 7th - 9.4%
First Downs/Drive - Rank 7th - 1.9 1st/d
Scoring Drive % - Rank 12th - 36.5%

The Panthers offense dominated at home.

@Home
Scoring Drive % - Rank 5th - 43%; Chargers, Saints, Cowboys, and Broncos were the only teams with more productive offenses at home.

The Panthers offense scored 25.9 ppg at home. (38-34-30-30-27-24-17-7) How quickly we forget.

Comparable offenses at home to the Panthers: Packers, Colts, Lions, and Bears.

While the defense was the one getting attention, the offense was just as good at home. The most impressive statistic was the production from the offense and defense together at home. Only 5 teams in 2013 had a point differential over 12.5 points at home. Saints, Bengals, Broncos, Seahawks, and Panthers. The Broncos were the only team to maintain that point differential for all 16 games.

The true measure of an offensive coordinator is their ability to move their offense into the red zone.

The ability to convert in the red zone is highly dependent on personnel and player execution. That is why Chris Scott, Brandon LaFell, and Steve Smith are no longer here.

The following details what is holding the Panthers offense back - especially on the road.

You need receivers who can convert 60%+ of their targets in the red zone. In 2013, this was the role of LaFell and Hixon. We all know Hixon was always injured and LaFell was inept. Correct this and the rest will fall into place. When anyone talks about the receiver situation being a problem, all you need to do is remember what the Panthers could not do in the red zone last season. Better hands and bigger targets are needed and the Panthers now have them.

If you want to hate the system Shula brings to the Panthers, I take no issue with any of those arguments. His system will minimize drives by both teams in a game, will balance the offense, and will not rely on chucking the ball all over the field 50 times a game. You cannot say Shula's system did not produce or was at the bottom of the league. That is completely unfounded wherever you look.

Shula's only year we went 12-4.

10th in yards per drive, 11 in pts per drive, 7th in fewest TO per drive. All that with an iffy cast around Cam.

What exactly didn't work? Boring football is boring. But winning is all that matters

Where Does the whole 29th in ttotal offense comes from? i guess from yards, explosive plays? idk.

Ive Been preachimg this for a while. We are like this offensivly for a reason

Number of offensive possessions is directly tied with total raw yards. 28th is simply total raw yards.....really crappy offenses can rank high bc they are inefficient on offense and behind in games

Based on the number of opportunities we touched the ball....we were suppose to be ranked low in collective yards. We were highly efficient when we did play offense.....which ultimately is what matters. 12-4
