On Cam Newton's Playing Status...

lol at the hypocrisy of this post. you boldly proclaimed none of us have ever had this experience before and it was incorrect. the level he plays at is no doubt the reason they are being cautious but throwing a tantrum because your vintage P55 "THE TEAM KNOWS ALL" whinestorm backfired is hilarious.

we'll stop giving our input when you stop acting like you have any insight into his injury (which you have by your own admission stated you know less about than I do)

I claim no expertise and never have when it comes to football. The difference is that I listen to the expertise and give my advice or comment based on those who do. I was just empathizing with his condition and noting that it must be tough to have some 300 lb guy falling on you and that it was very painful based on having the same kind of injury. You on the other hand downplayed everything because you had the injury and it was no big deal so it won't be for him.

The difference is you acted like because you got hurt and played in middle school or high school then Iftar was no big deal and it was sky is falling logic to be concerned.

If you can't see the difference I won't waste my time explaining further. You don't want a discussion and would rather act like a jerk consistent with your avatar. I don't have time for that juvenile behavior.

If Ron sacrifices a game just so he can abide by one of his beloved euphemisms you will officially know the Riverboat has left port and I am going to start to be worried for this season.

I actually think RR starting DA is more of a gamble and more risky, just think, if we win with DA it will be equal to playing with the houses money, not only did we win, we won without starting our hurt franchise QB and giving him more healing time. I love Cam but if im RR, I start DA

I truly don't care about the perception of "risky" vs. "conservative.

I care about making good football decisions and if this comes to pass then Ron Rivera will demonstrate once again that for al his talents as an X's and O's guy that he is held back from being a good coach because of perpetually idiotic basic coaching decisions.

If we had a better offense around the QB I'd say start DA.

Cam makes up for too much. I just don't see us having a shot with DA

Per rotoworld:

Appearing on NFL GameDay First, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports coach Ron Rivera is considering holding Cam Newton (ribs) out of Sunday's Week 1 tilt with the Bucs.

Per Rapoport, Newton and his teammates are "optimistic" the quarterback will be able to play. But Rivera is concerned and may end up holding Cam out in an effort to have him healthy for the remainder of the season. The latter makes the most sense. Putting Newton out there against a physical Bucs defense and exposing him to big hits wouldn't be smart. Signs continue to point to Derek Anderson getting the nod under center come 4:25 PM ET.

Cam can get hurt any game, any play, at any time. You don't sit your qb if he can go.

Don't be so naive to take what they say as the gospel. If they hold Cam out and say it is precautionary only and he is fine ***,is spin spin for next week and beyond. Sure it could be true but they are not going to say he is hurt unless it is pretty bad. They don't want to give any help to Detroit or anyone else down the road. They are going to downplay the injury and act like things are fine to not tip their hand in the future.

Everyone uses gamesmanship to keep everyone in the dark including their fans. You won't know until game day if he can play and you can be assured that if he were close to 100% he will be out there.

I'm not so sure about that, reports have been that he wasn't limited Friday or Saturday. As others have pointed out, it's a soreness thing. Risk of further injury is little. Brady played with 3 broken ribs. I can see if he missed a full week of practice, but Rivera even let slip that Wednesday was just basically a review day so there wasn't a need for him to practice that day anyway and the time would be better spent on getting treatment. His ribs aren't going to heal in a week, and if he wasn't going to play I don't think he should have even made the trip.

What reports and who was saying it? You have to take everything with a grain of salt. As you said his ribs are going to be sore and if he takes some hits on them they could get worse. But don't assume that they are going to tell you one way or the other.

I go by the adage that you should believe very little of what you hear and only half of what you actually see when it comes to NFL reports.
