Bucs in Game Mode - Covert Ops

During the 30-minute portion of practice that is open to the media, the oft revamped Bucs line worked in a parking lot shielded by a tarp-covered fence behind the practice fields at One Buc Place.

“Keep in mind that I’m going to give you very little information from here on out,’’ Smith in the wake of the Bucs 90-minute workout. “We’re in game week now, and anything we say, someone is listening.

“And with Carolina, as soon as they start telling us who practiced and who lined up in what formation on punts and different things, then I’ll start doing that, too. Until then, how about some general questions?’’

The covert activities didn’t end there either. Later, when asked if he had finally settled on a starter at right guard, coach Lovie Smith said yes. When asked if he would divulge who that starter will be, he said no.

This level of coaching paranoia is pretty extreme. Ron Rivera has absolutely at least named his starting offensive line. Apparently, Lovie doesn't realize that his player's execution and his coaches play calling far outweigh any typical media blah blah that may get released. In the big picture, it is fairly innocuous.

The latest "Cam may not play" talk could be a direct response to these games they are playing in Tampa.

Its not paranoia guys, Lovie likely has not decided on who will start yet at RG. Think about it, 4 of starting 5 are confirmed and the 2 players competing for RG (Rishaw Johnson, Patrick Omameh) and complete unknowns with little to no tape on them. He is just trying to cover up the fact that these guys stink and and possibly not starter ready. If he says the truth there will be a poo storm about why the front office ignored G in draft and free agency etc.

So, yeah, I appreciate your criticism of my team's head coach, but it is not the way you think it is.

They will both play and will be needed actually.  Star is hungry and I pity the "starter" who is laid before him to begin the game.

You act like your own rookie guard isn't about to be tossed into the lions den vs McCoy on Sunday. Panthers o-line is in the same spot as Tampa's line. Star has nothing on McCoy...Kalil will have to double up on him unless y'all want Cams ribs available for open season!

Because McCoy was so successful against our horrible right side last season.... right?  LOL!!

    • CMC had 1 game under Wilks and had 13 carries. His carries per game have stayed the same  in San Francisco if not gone up
    • Considering the Panthers under Rhule and Wilks were content to run him into the ground as their offensive “strategy”, is it any wonder? Subpar QB play, a below average OL and one decent WR in DJ Moore pretty much guaranteed his career would be a short one if he stayed here and not much hope of things improving. But that’s JMO. We did the right thing allowing him to leave for greener pastures.  You’re certainly not wrong just looking at it from a different perspective.
